The Host (2006)

The Korean film The Host is about a family that is brought together by the kidnapping of the daughter. A giant mutant fishlike/lizard-like creature takes her and other civilians to its lair in order to eat them.

It was so cool seeing the many differences and even similarities between this Korean film and American ones. I especially loved the fact that the protagonists were an entire family instead of just one, strong male character.

I did find it a bit depressing though that the young girl ended up dying in the end. I was so shocked! I was rooting for the family the whole time and was so looking forward to a happily ever after! However, I do understand that the creator of the film intended for the ending to be like this for a very specific reason. Yes, he was going for the shock factor, but also to point out the fact that there aren’t always going to be happy endings and that there are definite flaws within our systems.

Too bad really, I love my HEA :/
