What do you think about the term elevated horror? Also do you have any book recs?
its a bit of a newer term and im ngl im on the fence about it. im not super into reading discourse on it either so correct me if im wrong. it seems a bit shitty though to only call some horror “elevated” and therefore like its the only horror worth examining…like sure some movies are just for fun but i dont think its really worth putting down other movies because they aren’t as “deep” or whatever. i hope this makes sense bc my brain is lowkey mush rn its late and i am FREEZING lol.
book recs wise yes i do! my favorites that i read this year were probably The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K Le Guin, I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy, Desdemona by Toni Morrison, and On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong.
