ahem, I mean, ahem- I mean, I mean- Ahem-
So, Dreamcatcher lore. Kinda- I'm gonna only explain a part of her, and then the two sides of her.
First thing I really wanted to blabber about is Dreamcatcher's Spiders. It's kinda funny, I realized this AFTER I posted my last post about her and the Dream Sprite- but like- omg, they both can disintegrate! YIPPIIEEE!! anyway- anyway. Unlike Soot Dream, Dreamcatcher will not blow apart into a bunch of tiny speckles at the force of a small breeze. Instead, her control over her spiders is very strong. She sticks herself together like glue, and only dissembles into her multitude of spiders when wanted/needed. Avoiding damage, or slipping under the radar as she spies. She can also send out spiders, while keeping her main form intact- but this does have a limit due to the fact if she loses too many she'll lose stability and crumble. (But there is a way for her to... replenish her spiders.)
Though, this is not the ONLY aspect to her spiders. These spiders are her main way of "infecting" other beings (Must have a soul) and basically turning them into "Positivity" factories. She feeds off of positivity, but who said that positivity had to be real? Had to be genuine... had to be... pure? She and her spiders radiate an aura of "Toxic Positivity" and often will make one feel sick. Like you ate too many sweets.
But alas, how does one become infected? Well... uh... let's just say the spider finds whatever opening it can and crawls inside. Aiming directly for the soul. It burrows into the soul, and then it overwhelms the infected with massive amounts of "Toxic Positivity." Becoming this, like, Positivity Zombie. All of them are connected to a hivemind, with Dreamcatcher being able to control them at the will of a single thought. Her own personal army, who will protect her, who will party on forever more. Forever happy... until they forget to take care of themselves, and then slowly rot, and crumble... and then become one with their queen, Their "God." As their bodies don't turn to dust...
But they turn into spiders instead.
Though... there are outliers to her infection... But They'll be spoken of at a later date.
Dream and Corruption (I sometimes shorten Corruption to Corru, cus it sounds cute!)
The two sides of Dreamcatcher which exist in her mind. One being the original Dream, and then the Corruption which caused her fall.
Dream knew that if she carried all of her emotions herself, her burning want for revenge against her Sister would be unachievable. So, using the corruption put upon her, she basically shoved any feelings she deemed "A weakness," or "Could get in her way," into the mindless mass which now grew like mold upon her apple shaped soul.
Corruption was then born. A being stuck feeling as though the world was about to crumble around her at every waking moment. Constantly having Dream's "weak" feelings push upon her, and forced to burden the weight of centuries of guilt. She hates her very existence, and wishes for nothing more than to disappear.
You can usually tell which one is "in control" by Dreamcatcher's eyes. Slits, means Dream is in control, while large circles with tears streaming down means Corruption is in control. Though, Corruption is rarely "fully" in control and often avoids coming to the front as much as possible.
Dream HATES Corruption, and Corruption HATES Dream. One out of Pure unfiltered rage and annoyance. The other out of deeply seeded fear of what could occur if one step is made out of line.
It's rare Dream even lets Corruption a sliver of control- but there is one skeleton which she allows Corruption to interact with. One certain Guard from a now "Overwritten/Erased" universe.
The transfer of emotions isn't entirely clean, so speckles of "Happiness/Anger/Disgust" can be transferred into Corruption, while speckles of "Sadness/Fear/Regret" could be left behind in Dream. This does play a part in the "Good Ending" for Dreamcatcher, and her sister, Monarch.
So, uh, Yeeaaah. I feel like that's a good place to end off. Honestly, view Dream and Corruption's relationship like that of Eda and The Owlbeast from TOH.
Dreamcatcher and Monarch's story is highly inspired off of Eda and Lilith's story ngl...
Dreamcatcher (Dream + Corruption) all go by She/Her.
