SELAMAT HARI NATAL When an arranged Christmas dinner at a Korean eatery was cancelled, Chef/Owner Boon Lai Lim of Mutiara said he had a 3-course Christmas meal waiting. It was an offer I couldn't refuse. For starters, Chef sent out a festive ”Wing Of An Angel”. It’s stuffed with chicken mince and shiitake mushroom, served on a potato mash with a bbq plum sauce. Finger-licking delicious! The braised tofu had a filling of pork mince and served with a piquant sauce. The hit of the night was the steamed halibut, with a topping of preserved mustard greens, ginger, salted plums and tomato. The classic way of steaming fish. Sedapnya! Mutiara is Malay for pearl. Certainly a Malaysian pearl on Ponsonby Rd, Chef Boon Lai has a very loyal clientele and it’s rare for a restaurant to maintain this longevity.
