Your Plagueis fic has me so curious. Your Plagueis and Sidious tags. What on earth is even happening with them. What are they doing. What is wrong with them. I ask all of this with utmost positivity and intrigue
the short of it is well. i have eyes that see toxic yaoi everywhere. also in order: mutual manipulation (flirtation??). plotting to rule the galaxy. a lot of stuff is wrong with them but chiefmost i do think the major thing is they have communication probleeeeems 🤗 just like another master-apprentice pair we both like SO is it any surprise.
the long of it I will put under a cut in case anyone cares about plagueis spoilers (but mostly bc i will rant)
a LOT is happening with them a lot a lot. so plagueis opens with him killing his own master bc he yanno. got old and started making mistakes. but plagueis is confident he won't and his mission is to finally break the rule of two established by bane.
basically he wants to find someone he will teach the ways of the dark side to and THEN instead of continuing the "there can be only two" cycle they will be equals. and rule forever bc plagueis is messing with midichlorians in an attempt to finally understand and best the last challenge (in his eyes) to his rule: death.
a LOT is happening with him and palpatine. who he meets at 17 - noble whose family has gotten him out of trouble bc he keeps doing. unsavory things yk. but goes by palpatine bc he wants to be the one to continue the family name; palpatine and his father do NOT get along. bc dear old dad is power hungry but has no skill when it comes to politics. unlike plagueis, who survives bc he's so paranoid he over-plans and ends up coming across as omnipotent to his enemies.
ANYWAY dear 17 year old palpatine proceeds to leak information to his father's political opponents. and plagueis is like this human intrigues me so he goes to chase him down between his classes and convinces him to be a spy for him bc plagueis is backing someone else who's running for election on naboo there's a lot of political machinations at work.
but they debate for awhile. palpatine has a really nice speeder and likes to go fast (looks into the camera) to annoy his father and bc he just likes it. plagueis probes him in the Force and decides he likes how busy his mind is at all times, and finds it curious that he can't get a deep read on him at all. palpatine offers to give him a ride in the speeder (looks into the camera) and there's a "only if I have your word you won't go too fast" and here is where I was like haha that's kinda. well.
so they go on the ride (not date it's not a date) and palpatine is like yeah I've hit people in a speeder and plagueis is like oh I didn't know (he did he read his whole file before ever approaching him) and then he decides he likes palpatine's "youthful ignorance" AND then before the ride is over he decides and I quote "before long I will own this human". And then plagueis spends time doing more sith stuff and dealing with hutts and the whole time he keeps thinking about palpatine. his cunning and whether or not he has the Force.
when palpatine's father finds out his eldest son has been having regular holocommunications with an ally of his political enemies he cuts palpatine's comms altogether, locks him away in the estate, AND also summons plageuis (going by his alter ego) to naboo to threaten him to stay away. this does not deter him.
so plageuis shows up the next time palpatine is alone off-planet and he and palpatine talk about how his father keeps trying to intercede in his affairs. palpatine complains about not being able to be truly free to be his own person until he's 21. and then word gets back to his family that palpatine was seen with plagueis and palpatine's father reacts very normally to this. by taking the whole family onto his ship and saying they'll put palpatine somewhere no one will be able to find him. there's a lot of yelling and screaming and he strikes palpatine who just snaps. and then calls plagueis in a shaky daze later after having unlocked his Force abilities (which he'd been suppressing) and well. killed every single person on the ship. and palpatine is like "you wanted this to happen you let yourself be seen with me" and plagueis is like "yes and i'm so proud of you and I will hide the evidence, congratulations on your emancipation" and well. there's also an I KILLED THEM EVERY SINGLE ONE moment.
and then they spend years as master and apprentice - even when they both are officially sith lords palpatine still calls him master and he calls him apprentice (looks into the camera) and plagueis tells him from day one the plan is for them to rule the galaxy together (as co-chancellors i am NOT KIDDING). plagueis has a lot of interesting ideas about the Force and balance and it's really neat tbh. at one point their enemies almost kill plagueis and palpatine responds rationally by taking his own saber and plagueis' and razing every single life form responsible to the ground in a rage in broad daylight. you know normal stuff.
their biggest problem is communication like if they would just TALK. bc they each worry they're replaceable to the other (looks into the camera) and I feel like that in combination with plagueis' rising paranoia is what will undo them eventually. bc they're terrifying together and I think if palpatine hadn't thrown in the towel they would have succeeded. they're deeply compelling to me sorry i can't help it this is my pitch PLEASE put your fingers into my cage i promise the fungus isn't contagious.
NO WAIT I'm not done. so this is legends but canon now says that plagueis was trying to form a dyad with palpatine. just listen to me listen there's so much here to explore how can there be so few fics I'M NOT CRAZY I'M NOT TOXIC YAOI DYAD AS IF TO BALANCE ANAKIN AND OBI-WAN’S DYAD UNHAND ME -I am dragged offstage-

giving the toads more fungal characteristics, they can communicate and pass on information through their own version of a mycelium network. functionally great for a species that seems to be plagued with invasion lately but in practice it just means that they are HUGE gossips and you really have to be careful what you say around one
(certain infections can pass through this as well)
