New headcanon: Maria's hyperfixation.
Wave could just be seeing Shadow's shoes and assuming they're Extreme Gear, which would also be very funny. But with what we know of Gerald, he did love studying ancient civilizations. I think it's plausible for Babylonian artifacts to have made it onto the Ark and for Maria to have been drawn to their history.
So when designing Shadow's shoes, she had a lot of inspiration to draw from.
Do you have any fic recs for jason character studies and apologies? Like just your favorites? If there's hatred of other characters i don't mind, jason deserves to crash out. There's somany 'everyone apologises to tim' stories, i just really want to see someone doing that for jason.

A beautiful fic where Jason maims the Joker, touches base with his people, and leaves the bats reeling. Bruce does not deserve to live in this one. It's not finished, and it's been a couple years since the last update, but perhaps if you all go show the author some love, they'll revisit it!
I Killed Gotham by Margot_Elizabee
This one is Arkham Knight verse! Awesome ocs for the militia, competent Jason (as both Robin and Arkham Knight), Bruce gets DRAGGED (less for his parenting and more for his morals but Batman and Robin typical refusal to emotionally present with his kids) , Tim also gets some heat (for shit talking a presumed dead kid), Babs also cones under fire which I'm not usually a fan of but well. Alternate universe and you'll never catch me defending a cop who runs a surveillance state. This is a part of a series and I haven't read all of them yet but promising things from my glimpses. I'm praying Bruce dies at the end. Oh and there's some Trying-to-atone-for-being-a-failfather-through-Jason Slade Wilson too.

Civilian Jason (until the end I think), bio dad Bruce (stay with me), but it is one of the least ass depictions of poverty I've ever seen so I've gotta give it it's roses. Another one that's unfinished and hasn't been updated in a while but you never know what a few more eyes on it can do. Bruce is a very flawed parent and he fucks up with Jason a CRAZY amount in the first couple chapters but that's part of it's charm. Make that rich man squirm Jason!!!
The Ones That Stay The Same by Batsignal
One of the ONLY Versions of Bruce that gets to live, just barely. All the bats get povs!! Decently in character!! De-aged Jason (with a glimpse of big Jason in the past at the end), this is a long fic so save it for a rainy day when you have time. Same boat as the last fic, as far as completion goes. This is one of few batfam fics I can tolerate.
Bad News, This Place Is Magic As Fuck by Mikkal
This author writes a lot of Jason whump while making him super competent, if that's your jam, though these fics also tend towards batfam centric. This fic is no exception, but!! Magic Jason!! Case fic!! Duke and Steph and Jason bonding!! Tims there too unfortunately. Bruce not so much though! I haven't read it in a while but I believe this one is completed. I just love competent magic Jason doing what Batman can't as always and everyone being in awe of my man.
Journey to the Center of the Multiverse by AddictedApple
In which Jason is the universes special little guy, Jaykyle + ace Jason, bad dad Bruce and CONSEQUENCES!! Tim unfortunately included but he's tolerable ig. A singular brief mention of the bastardization of Talia at the end of lost days but the fic does focus on reboot and retcon bullshit so whose surprised. Another long one but it's completed!
Benefit of the Doubt (series) by Spiritsglade + Refusal by VenJess
BotD is an ongoing series with two installments at time of posting by @spiritsglade about a Jason who has been beaten down enough to rejoin the family and a particular procedure the bats developed to keep Jason contained during Joker break outs ft. Bad dad Bruce, complicit Cass, Babs (iffy on this one honestly she would never defend the clown) and Dick, + Tim being a bitch. They do not apologize to Jason and the chapter we left off on is so fury inducing that I had to recommend Refusal alongside it, a companion fic in which Jason circumvents the procedure and kills joker and then leaves to start a new life.

Dick and Jason brotherisms are so so so important to me and @sunlitlemonade always provides. Just Dick babying his little brother after Jason is caught in an explosion. As a little balm for my soul. I revisit it whenever I think about Brothers in Blood too intensely.

In which Babs and Dick order a hit on Joker for Jason, Dick handles it badly, Steph and Jason are friends, and Bruce is there. One tim centric fic but it's not super important.
