old me romi is a little bit of a confrontation between ortega and romi and her letting a little bit of her past self rivalry shine through.
You shouldn’t be here. Shouldn’t keep showing up at HQ, falling back into half remember patterns, hanging around the Rangers in your free time, waiting for Danny to finish up with the media team.
Except back then you were waiting for Ricardo, and for what? You can barely remember. Like look at reflections on moving water, you can almost make it out but the details are lost. Just an impression, the movement of light, friendship, desire, longing.
It’s different now, you’re different now.
Maybe it’s an addiction, like the craving for something sweet, that first bite into the candy bar, the surge of energy through your veins, the warmth of sunshine in your mind.
Daniel, soft, sweet Daniel. Safe, maybe that’s what you’re really addicted to, the way you can fall asleep in his arms, the way his thoughts blanket you like an armor protecting you from the harshness of the outside world.

It was supposed to be one drink, maybe two. Too many feelings lately and you need to numb them, isn’t that why people drink? To forget?
What a load of horseshit. It’s making you forget the wrong things, the things that have kept you going for the last seven years. Making your heart soar when you see his familiar form saunter through the door.
No bright contagious smile on his face this time, the wrinkle in his brow making him look older reminding you it’s now not then. You need to remember that.
His eyes searching the crowd, finding you and moving with confidence through the dense crowd. There’s that smile now, and you feel your own face match it, shit. This isn’t good. You’re drunk and it’s too easy to remember the feeling of his hands.
So much for escaping all those pesky feelings, they’ve just slide onto the stool next to you.
“What are you doing here?” How the fuck did he find you?
“And here I thought you wanted me.”
“What are you talking about?” as soon as the words are out you remember. His stupid face showing up on the news playing on the tv of the bar you’ve holding yourself up in. The way his smile made your stomach flip, texting him like a dumbass to join you.
You groan running a hand down your face, “that was two drinks ago me.”
“So, I missed my window then?”
“Yeah, you did.” You grab your drink and go to slam it back. Not gin anymore, he must have switched it out with water. How did he even manage that?
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen you drunk in public.” He remarks casually, but you know better, know he’s digging, always digging.
“You’ve never seen me drunk.” Close sure, but you’ve always maintained at least some control. It was too dangerous not too, even back then, even worse now.
“Why now?”
“None of your fucking business, Ricardo.”
Hands up in surrender, “Fine, I won’t pry.” Liar. “At least let me get you home.”
You want to tell him to fuck off, you can find your own way, and maybe you could but somewhere between your brain and mouth you lose the words.
He takes you back to his apartment, even this drunk you have enough self-preservation to not give away the location of your base. He has to half carry you up the stairs. He’s too close and smells too good. Can’t help yourself but to brush your fingers against his side. Right over the where you know the tattoo is, the place he’s kept you all these years. The room spins, everything feeling both too close and too far away at the same time.
How is everything always two things at once.

Lover now too, and you can feel the darkness of his bedroom like a siren song waiting to smash you on the rocks.
He’s so gentle when he guides you to the couch, a soft kiss on your temple as he helps you sit. He helps settle you in, a pillow by your head and water on the nightstand, before rising to turn off the light.
You mumble at his retreating back, “I didn’t need you to rescue me.” Not tonight anyways. You did need him to rescue you once, and he never showed up. You’ll never let yourself need him again. Now if only you could stop wanting him.

emma(twc)- I wanted a scaredy cat detective. someone who would hide when there was danger and was really just too soft for the world she's been pulled into. I also wanted to romance Nat and I thought her overprotective streak would pair well with a more anxious detective. and I wanted her to have a cleft chin! that was very important to me
kira(twc)-when I first started playing ifs I was making a different oc for every ro and as a result they weren't always very distinct from each other personality wise. kira was pretty much just another dinah to try on adam's solo route. she's developed more and become more distinct since then though.
Riley(twc)-I was inspired by samira wiley who I think is just so beautiful. riley is one of my few ocs who actually has a face claim. I did want her to also have glasses and be plus sized but with similar facial features to samira
cynthia(fhr)- my friend cristal was a big inspiration for how cynthia looks! cynthia didn't really come to life until after I'd played rebirth a few times and finally played the retribution demo. the braid scene destroyed me and just gave me such bad brain rot. so basically the first thing I decided about cynthia is that she is so very in love with julia (I mean aren't we all at this point?)

curtis(fhr)- my inspiration for curtis was to make a step who used humor a lot to deflect. one who doesn't take anything too seriously. I was planning on setting up for the chen/ortega throuple but it just didn't really vibe. I was really stuck on curtis for while I couldn't really figure him out. I knew I wanted humor to be a part of his whole things and for him to choose sidestep as a villain name because I hadn't tried that yet. it took a long time to come together but I absolutely love how he has developed
Romi(fhr)- okay so this one is a little embarrassing. the original plan was for romi to have a secret crush with julia. lots of pining and that whole queer expereince of being in love with your best friend but it taking a long time to figure that out and then being afraid of ruining things. anyways the first thing I choose was her name which is a play off of romeo to go with julia/juliet. but then I chose the wrong thing and ended up with ricardo 🤷♀️
James(fhr)- I created james when I was having a hard time connecting to romi. the first thing I decided was that I wanted him to have a mirror image puppet so I could explore that content in the game
Addie(a6)- I was thinking about the music box that the traveler has and decided I wanted to have mine be a dancer so that there was a deeper connection to this one piece that she has from her old life.
Narni(a6)- I needed a mean oc to butt heads with cal and damien. first thing I decided was that I wanted them to have like purple skin because purple is the best color
Daen(a6)- they aren't super developed tbh. I wanted a human traveler since I had the other races. I wanted him to be a jokester, generally good natured and always down for a good time

sozan(atoc)- I'd already played through what was available of atoc at the time so I was thinking what sort of character would be interesting/how I could see a person reacting to what we knew of the story so far. I wanted her to be a survivor more than anything else. they've spent most of their life on the run which has made them blunt and a little rough around the edges.
bernie wiseman(mindblind)- I heard about sally's route and knew I had to play it. bernie is super underdeveloped. first thing I decided about her was probably her name bernadette and nickname bernie because I thought it would be super cutere
bethany blake (body count)-I needed to romance charlie. honestly the first thing I decided about her was the she would be anxious and probably so ill cut out to go on a reality show
kenna of shadows end- no real inspiration beside wanting to try out manerkol's romance route. first thing I decided was that she would be plus sized and have a roman nose
molly lucas- the main thing I knew I wanted with molly was for her to hold out for the step 4 love confession. because god it's glorious. just as much slow burn as I could possibly get out of the game
aiden- the newest baby! I was inspired to finally create an oc for the exile after reading the chapter 4 update (I knew I would eventually it was just a matter of when the brain rot would hit) he's a pheonix and I wanted to do something a little different with his appearance than the red hair to represent flames so instead I went with grey like ash as if the mythosi blood has burned him away reduced him to ashes which feels very fitting seeing how we are introduced to the commander. I also knew he was going to be in love with sabir because how could you not be?
anwyn- first thing I decided was that she would be a bitch. that was the main inspiration lmao. also came up with some tragic backstory stuff. honeslty like her name and class were among the last things I actually thought of.

so first off just looks wise Nat is very much cyn's type. tall dark hair brown eyes, can't be trusted around tech cyn would definitely be looking
there is so much angst potential with this pairing.
on the one hand I really love the idea of cyn having someone who is so supportive and clear in their intentions and interest but that would also freak her out so much.
I also wonder how Nat would feel about the telepathy. she has secrets of her own.
I think they both have secrets that they feel make them unlovable. things they worry they can never share without being rejected.
but I love the idea of that being a thing that connects them, that helps them come together.

if we are being honest all they need to do is like be emotionally mature and available. she does not make good choices about relationships and as much as she may romanticize it she is scared of emotional vulnerability. mind you she usually runs from those before they get into actual relationship status.

emma-- the less needs you have the more people will want to spend time with you
kira- how to do a pushup (it's one of the few memories she has. interrupting her dad while he was trying to sneak a workout in. being so very confused by what he was doing and refusing to leave until he taught her how to play like he was)
