Dug this one up from the archives: Mutual Core (detail), 36”x48”, acrylic on maple panel, 2014 I made this sentimental love poem for my favorite ornithologist aka my darling hubs. I selected each bird from the various countries we've had the great fortune to travel through together. From the colorful birds-of-paradise from Papua New Guinea, the Hoopoe we've seen in Namibia, the Gouldian Finch from Australia, our native Pileated woodpecker that lives in the woods around our house. Of all the dazzling beautiful birds the humble Honeyguide bird (from S. Africa) acts as the star, as they are known to lead humans to bee hives so they can feed on the honey left behind. At that time I was exploring the heart as a geode, formed under deep pressure over long periods of time, erupting from the peeling layers of a local manzanita tree. We are shaped by our desires and shared experiences into one mutual core. I’ve found that sometimes giving too much backstory with my wobbly words can dilute the universal qualities. I usually tend to keep silent. Do you want to hear the backstory to some of my paintings or does it take something away? #backstory #behindthepainting #mutualcore #desire #love #birdofparadise #honeyguide #secretdesires #tiffanybozic
