While veganism among Latinx is still picking up steam, Hispanics reimagined many of their classic recipes with vegan ingredients during the 2018 holiday season. Some dishes required simply swapping coconut milk for coquito or champurrado, while others required more complicated replacements like dairy-free chocolate to make vegan mole. Although vegan dishes typically require more prep and your abuela is more inclined to stick to traditional dishes sans new twists, we are sure to see more Latin dishes “veganized” in the future, as the Economist declares 2019 “the year of the vegan.”
