Neptune’s hall (1)
I played the level so many times, I can dream it.
But recently I figured out something. I don’t know if you figured this also out. Just let me know.
Beneath where you begin there is a hall with twelve doors. The same number as in the hall of seasons level (four symbols x 3 doors = 12)

Look at the video, Lara run in the Hall of seasons level and dive into the pool and she is a pre-Neptune’s Hall level. This would explain the twelve doors.

12/ GETS THE PAINTING – Solves the puzzles:
Lara climbs down inside the Buttress negotiating protruding and recessing stone slabs set in the walls. At the bottom she enters:
The Chamber of 12 calendar doors with paintings linked to the 12 elements.
Circular mosaic of concentric circles inset into the floor which must be correctly aligned according to elements and seasons.
Correctly done the puzzle allows Lara to enter four further chambers linked to WATER FIRE AIR and EARTH.
Correct elements are assembled from each to start a primitive steam furnace working.
Powered by furnace steam-engine a column lifts up from the floor into the final room above the chamber – the Brother Obscura room, full of skeleton architecture – an ossuary.
The room has 12 duplicates of the Obscura Painting clutched to the chests of various skeletal statues (possibly some Nephilim carved figures stand guard??).
Bro. Obscura’s soul sucking spirit appears and attacks Lara draining energy.
An inscription around the roof of the chamber reads “TO SEE THE TRUTH ONE MUST VIEW ALL THROUGH THE SPIRIT OF THE KEEPER.” This is meant literally. Seen through the attacking spirit’s form the genuine Obscura Painting glows – or summat.
Lara gets the Painting but sets off a trap. The tunnels and room start to flood. Lara has to swim for it back the way she has come.
She exits back into a different part of the modern Louvre complex.

The number 12 is an important number, probably.. 12 seasons in a year, but I think it has more to do with alchemical stuff.

The Great Work (Latin: Magnum opus) is an alchemical term for the process of working with the prima materia to create the philosopher's stone. It has been used to describe personal and spiritual transmutation in the Hermetic tradition, attached to laboratory processes and chemical color changes, used as a model for the individuation process, and as a device in art and literature.
The original process philosophy has four stages:[1][2]
nigredo, the blackening or melanosis
albedo, the whitening or leucosis
citrinitas, the yellowing or xanthosis
rubedo, the reddening, purpling, or iosis
Expansion on the four stages
Alchemical authors sometimes elaborated on the three or four color model by enumerating a variety of chemical steps to be performed. Though these were often arranged in groups of seven or twelve stages, there is little consistency in the names of these processes, their number, their order, or their description.[5]
Various alchemical documents were directly or indirectly used to justify these stages. The Tabula Smaragdina is the oldest document[6] said to provide a "recipe". Others include the Mutus Liber, the twelve keys of Basil Valentine, the emblems of Steffan Michelspacher, and the twelve gates of George Ripley.[7] Ripley's steps are given as:[8]
1. Calcination 7. Cibation 2. Solution (or Dissolution) 8. Sublimation 3. Separation 9. Fermentation 4. Conjunction 10. Exaltation 5. Putrefaction 11. Multiplication 6. Congelation 12. Projection
When looking into the Mutus Liber I saw this:
The Mutus Liber, or Mute Book (from Latin: Silent Book), is a Hermetic philosophical work published in La Rochelle in 1677. It ranks amongst the major books on alchemy in Early Modern literature, just as much as does Atalanta Fugiens by Michael Maier. It has been reprinted numerous times.
Maybe it is too far fetched but Brother Obscura is also a deaf person.
THE CHOICE OF ARTIST
The ideal choice was a reformed heretic, now a monk, who had once been a great painter. He had suffered questioning by the Inquisition and was now a crippled deaf-mute. All he wanted was to be left in peace and forgotten by the world.

Le savoir des alchimistes étant réservé à des initiés, il ne comprenait pas ou très peu de traces écrites. Leur savoir était majoritairement renfermé dans des gravures et illustrations, très riches de symboles ésotériques, leur signifiant aussi bien des grands principes spirituels que la mise en pratique à suivre pour la réalisation du Grand Œuvre.
