top traxx off preacher's daughter by ethel cain these are not actually in order numbers are fake
"thoroughfare" do you like "fade into you" by mazzy star but wish it was almost 10 minutes long and way more doomed-feeling? vibes (to me) like some of led zep's folkier stuff, esp the outro
"gibson girl" a) this title really does it for me, really love the concept. b) rides the sexy/scary line the same way the weeknd's trilogy era did. c) horror movie version of "ride" by lana del rey
"family tree (intro)" hits the intergenerational-trauma-as-horror theme perfectly while still having an 80s arena rock drum sound. best lyrics on the album. i like this one better than the one later in the album.
"ptolemaea" what can i say that hasnt been said. would be personally thrilled abt the re-entry of heavy metal into the fringes of the pop world under any circumstances, the fact that its in the idiom of grotesque feminine horror? best possible scenario
"strangers" has to be here just for the concept (SPOILER if anybody cares: literally a song from the perspective about a woman dead and frozen and waiting to be eaten in a killers basement. what could be better"
mitski & leonard cohen - a playlist for two masters of poetry + song
Send me songs!
As four am approaches and I tuck myself into bed, I find my mind wandering back to the songs you guys shared that relate to your thoughts about me. My mind then wandered further into thinking more about you guys and your favorite things.
I want to get to know you guys on a more personal level, I want to know the people who’re always there for me and constantly support me even through my times of inactivity (especially with writing).
So I thought, to start out, why don’t you guys send me some asks (they can be on anon if you wish) that contain your favorite songs! I want to expand my horizons and broaden the range of music I listen to, too.
I’ve got Spotify and Youtube ready to make playlists if any of you guys are interested! (By ready I mean I’m going to bed now and I’ll make the playlists later.)
If some of you out there are thinking something like- “why make a post like this when you could just go ahead and write a drabble?”
Music helps me write. When I’m stuck singing along to my music I don’t write. So, I need new music. Plus, I want to get to know my online friends.
Thoughts on lorde?
in general? MASSIVELY influential on the top 40 landscape, there was a few years when literally everyone (read: all pop stars) was trying to be her.
personally? i like some of her stuff but im not, yknow, passionate about it. i really wish the first 35 seconds of "team" was its own, different song instead of turning into "team." i have wanted this since 2013 and i will never stop wanting it. has anyone used that sample to do something. god please maybe i need to become a producer just to do that.
her new single? i feel like i might be the only person who liked it? but thats cuz its a Type of Song (summer-y, melodic, organic pop) that i personally really like (other examples would be "steal my sunshine" by len and "she's a ranbow" by the stones and even maybe "sympathy for the devil") not because its objectively good. anyway. also the people saying it sounds like a razor commercial are right. also also it came out the same day as "thot shit" and ive listened to that one way more since lol.
deatj grips, both musically and culturally
not much to say cuz death grips are mostly a meme to me. here are some other artists who have the same status in my life
100 gecs
sufjan stevens
the mountain goats
weezer (actually listened to quite a bit of them as a teen but i refuse to go back)
all of these musical artists exist to me in like. the same way the music written for rupauls drag race challenges exists to me. if that makes sense
aren’t you scared that there is something on your feet? / could be a fish with those bright, big, pointy teeth
