Ordinary Sacramento Californian photographer Enoch Ku in his ongoing project captures the quirkiness of the otherwise mundane urban landscape of Sacramento, California.

For solstice I woke up early to be at the museum by opening, for the sole purpose of looking at Edvard Munch's "the sun" with a friend. The painting is almost 4.5 x 7.75 meters, and we sat in front of it for a long time, in contemplation and conversation. We saw nothing else, we were only there for the sun. It was a beautiful, serene, and meaningful ritual.
Then we came out to the midday sun, and caught her down by the harbour, where the frost mist hung low above the fjord. But the sky was clear and blue, with the sun resting close to the horizon. Almost like in the painting, but today the sun was warm and dark in colour, painting the buildings golden round us. I think maybe everything will be all right after all.
A friend told me that her grandfather would always light a candle on winter solstice "to aid the sun". And I love that. I have now placed a lit candle in my window still to help guide the sun back!
latin word of the day: bruma,* the shortest day in the year, the winter solstice; in gen., the winter time, winter (mostly poet.)

i wish people would take oversaturation of advertisements more seriously as an actual issue. you complain about them and people think you're being overzealous about a mere annoyance. no. this is a legitimate aesthetic, mental health, physical health, social, environmental, political, and "everything else under the fucking sun" concern.
