The events leading up to this moment in Murtogg's life as a pirate happened very fast. Too fast for him to comprehend what was going on. He was on the Pearl with Captain Barbossa one moment watching a card game between him ( Barbossa ) and a female pirate that Murtogg couldn't recall the name of. He did recall her looks and he was ... impressed. There weren't many female pirates that he had seen in his short career so far on the open seas of the Caribbean. Just two or three.
When he found himself on a new ship, it was different. It hit him suddenly that he'd been sold in a sense by his former Captain to the Spanish female Captain from the card game. Mullroy wasn't in the trade either, so he was truly on his own now and it worried him. The female's words finally hit him, "Uhm. I'm not sure, are you allowed to look at me? I mean, I'm not stopping you from looking?" he honestly didn't know the rules at the moment. Was he allowed to look at her? Was she allowed to look at him? Who knew really, he surely didn't. He also had the understanding that his role as a former marine with the Royal Navy came up a few times , during that fateful card game. A gulp escaped him, now realizing he was probably staring at his new captain. He was making a fool of himself and nobody was there to help him either. " -- am I allowed to look at you?"
ESMERALDA SUPPOSED SHE SHOULDN'T SMILE, no doubt more patronizing than friendly to her newly-acquired recruit, but she couldn't help herself, really. he was like a WIDE-EYED KITTEN in the vast expanse of the bustling port. SHIPWRECK CITY could be daunting to anyone, but particularly to a freshly-deserted recruit now all but friendless in the whole damn world. yes, she'd heard about his recent past with HIS MAJESTY, and perhaps that ought to make her suspicious, but she'd always had a SOFT SPOT for a man in uniform, hadn't she ? Barbossa had wanted rid of the little stowaway who'd climbed aboard without so much as signing the articles and La Doña Pirata, well, call it SELFLESS GENEROSITY towards the poor fool who might end up shot or worse, graciously took him on in her winnings from the evening's game. just as likely, though, she sensed a new toy to play with. a useful toy, with knowledge of the navy's AND the company's inner workings. but that could wait. BUILD HIS TRUST, first.
❛❛ I suppose we both are pirates and may look at what we please, señor. ❜❜
she extended a hand, DAINTY AND LADYLIKE to be received, not shaken, in the palm of his hand. Esmeralda was all-too-aware she rarely looked less imposing than she did now, garbed in silk for a night of revelry in port among the Brethren Court's company, but looks could be deceiving. skirts concealed more armament than trousers, after all.
❛❛ my name is Esmeralda. you may call me Captain ❜❜
