“Cas, what the fuck are you wearing?”
Cas glances down, then back up at Dean. “A shirt. Why?”
Dean rolls his eyes. “Obviously. But I mean why.. that,” he finishes with a motion of his hand.
Cas looks down again and frowns. “You don’t like it?”
Dean sighs. “It’s not that, it’s just.. loud, is all.”
Cas continues looking at his chest, hand unoccupied with a mug of coffee coming up to pick at the red sequins.
“But I overheard the girl at the store say she was getting one to wear for her boyfriend,” he says quietly.
Dean huffs, an overwhelming sense of fondness bubbling up inside him.
Because Cas still has a habit of not quite picking up on the whole reading between the lines business, and a lot of innuendo falls beneath the radar.
So the words ‘UR Valentine Anytime’ outlined with a pale yellow conversation heart, backed by the bright red cotton of the shirt itself are staring Dean in the face like the world’s greatest proposition.
It’s not like he doesn’t already have a ring in his pocket.
And it’s not like he wasn’t already planning on asking Cas to marry him via gigantic stack of strawberry pancakes.
He smiles, setting his own mug on the counter, to cross the kitchen and stop in front of Cas.
Curling a finger under Cas’ chin, he lifts it, then presses a soft kiss to the corner of Cas’ mouth.
Cas smirks in response, answering with a peck of his own.
“So, anytime, huh?” Dean asks, a lazy sort of cockiness to his tone.
Dean plucks at the sequins for emphasize. “Anytime.”
“Oh,” Cas huffs. “I thought that was a given, Dean.”
Dean nods, just barely keeping his grin in check. “So then, like.. forever?”
Cas’ brows knit together and before he can even get another word out, Dean is falling to one knee- fishing the ring out of his pocket as he goes.
“Marry me, Cas. Be my Valentine always.”
The smile, tears, laughter, and tackle hug that follows is all the yes Dean needs, and as they’re laying there on the floor after- Cas still in that god awful shirt, draped over Dean’s side, while admiring the newest addition to his finger, Dean thinks he may have never been quite so much in love.
