She grumbles to herself, unsure what to do. Steven was missing and she still had questions about her new position working with the technology humans. So here she, trying to track down his old haunts to find him. Not even her drones could give her a good view.

“Ridiculous. How irresponsible can he--oof!”

She runs right into someone’s back.

“Marialite, what’s going on?”

“Everyone seems so sad! What did I miss??” Leggy really was out of the loop. She’d been one of the Gems that hadn’t gotten a special goodbye from Steven, and thus had no idea of where he had gone. Since Marialite seemed to know a lot of things, and since she couldn’t find Doc, it made sense to ask him.

As the Pearl fusion walked through the place known as the Strawberry battlefield, she hummed a bit, sighing in contemplation as she walked around, looking at not only the field itself, but all the giant weapons strewn around it.

“Mmmmm, still feels like it was yesterday...At least for Pearl. All the fighting and battle, constantly being poofed for Rose, even though she didn’t need to be.”

She went over to one of the weapons, placing a hand on the hilt, and humming slightly.

“Pink Pearl never would have thought that Pink would be the type to fight on a battlefield, much less a rebellion. But, me? I know all too well why she would fight...Not just for her freedom, but for others’.”

“Rose...” A single tear went down her one eye, causing her to sniffle. “You may have caused a lot of bad things...You may have hurt a lot of people...”

“But, ultimately, I’m glad I knew you. Deep down, I know it must have been hard, what you went through...What we went through...But, I think, in the end, you tried your best. No one can change the past. We just try to do what we can for the future.”

So many memories, of two lifetimes before now...

She didn’t even really notice if anyone else was there.

She didn’t want to be found, she didn’t want others to see her like this. Crying again over what happened to her and the emptiness she still felt. Spinel may have made friends, even enjoyed being around them, but nothing could take away the lingering feeling that they would just leave in the end. That these people and gems only tolerated her in order to prevent another catastrophe. Perhaps they were just doing that. Her mind twisted around the views of these friendships she had made and she let out another small, weak, sob.

Spinel had ran from anyone, gone to a small clearing in the forest that existed near Little homeworld. It was a place she could still run to when she needed to be alone but also wasn’t completely quiet and empty like the Palace on Homeworld was like. The silence after all is what scared her the most.

“hah - sorry, i didn’t mean to get in your way or anything!” 

setting down the heft boxes of equipment she was carrying, sadie rubbed her lower back with a grimace. steven would often help out, being their unofficial roadie when he wasn’t with the gems, but he was busy tonight.. not that she minded doing it herself, some of it was just.. heavy. she looked up at the person she had just narrowly missed hitting with her boxes, smiling apologetically. gosh.. he was uh.. big. 

“ah -- hey, are you one of steven’s friends by any chance?”

“And who are you supposed to be?” A gem she was not familiar with, so dealt with them with apprehension. As she looked over them, she just mentally made a note to not engage in a physical fight. Not that she would ever physically fight. She’s a Zircon, after all. It was not her place to do so.

“I’m a rather busy gem. If you require something, make it quick.”

;;To add on to what you said, Greg was also living in a van. Not the best home for a child so it's possible that he was fine with having the Crystal Gems help him out in taking care of Steven.

(ooc: THIS!! ALL OF THIS! He probably knew he couldn’t keep raising Steven out of the back of the van forever, especially when he needed Gem specific training. I would argue that he probably wasn’t completely fine with his son having to live so far from him, at least in terms of housing, but what did Steven gain by going to live with the Gems? An actual roof over his head instead of a van roof. A bedroom, a bathroom, a kitchen, the works. And Greg chose to keep living in the van and supporting Steven financially and emotionally.)
