              It was a failing ruse. Even behind his glasses the text on the page was blurring into incomprehensible smears. No amount of rubbing at his eyes would make the words come clear. There was a generous pounding in his temple, not assisted by the tell-tale sounds of restlessness made by his partner. Hal resisted the urge to make another batch of coffee. His insomnia was drifting into an ugly day four, and despite all that time spent searching the dark net, he’d come up empty handed. 

            Hal pulled off his glasses and rubbed his face for the umpteenth time. He considered taking another shower to wake himself up, but the thought never made it to action. 

                       “Don’t you have something better to do?” he snapped--it was meant to come out nicer. “I know it’s been quiet lately, but you’re really not helping.”

With busted kneecap, Venom’s options were very limited. That couldn’t be healed by quick first aid. Gasping, he lost balance and fell on the ground. Though, he pulled out his own pistol and aimed at Solid before he managed to finish his job.
