There’s a heavy sigh full of IRRITATION as Carol raises her voice to her, she knew she wasn’t a GREAT shot— she still struggled with the aiming, the kick-back, the noise. It was just still so FOREIGN to her. This whole time it was just her and her bow. She knew it wouldn’t be good enough if the walls ever came down, if she ever she ended up ALONE out there.

Her voice was soft yet DEFENSIVE. She wanted so bad for Carol to approve, to be PROUD of her shooting and self defense. That just wasn’t the case yet. She was getting better with each lesson though, but apparently not FAST enough.

The words were more mumbled than anything and came out with a HUFF, like a child bickering with a parent. She held her bow in front of her, fingers testing the PULL of the string before lifting it in front of her to aim at the approaching walkers. It was more than USUAL, but it was nothing they couldn’t handle.

okay but Dees mom died when she was like six so she never really had that mother/daughter relationship, not to mention she had three older sisters who got most of the attention when it came to advice, boys, etc, and her mom was sick for most of those years. So now that Carol is in her life she lowkey just wants to win her approval, she wants her to be proud of her like a mother is proud of her daughter because she never had that. Of course, she sees Carol as this mother that she never had and she respects the hell out of her and just wants to do everything right by her :,)

Send a 👫 and I’ll write four headcanons I have about our muse’s relationship | carol & rick

1 . Rick likes to help Carol cook . It’s a secret , though , because he’s terrible at it , and she’s been trying to teach him how . And even though he’s gotten a bit better , he’s still pretty bad . Carol always laughs at Rick when he burns something for forgets to add an ingredient , but is always patient , even when she teases him .

2 . Rick worries about Carol a lot . Of course he worries about the entire group , but after losing her husband , her daughter , he knows that the tough exterior is just an act . He reaches out to her a lot in subtle ways , asking her if she’s ‘ had enough sleep ’ or if she ‘ needed to take a break . ’ Most times she declines , but she appreciates it , anyway .

3 . Rick likes to stay up late and wait for the scouters to come back from their runs , even if it means not sleeping all night . Usually he toss and turn until he gets up , grabs his jacket , and leaves the house . Carol , unable to sleep , as well, follows quietly behind until they reach the gate , where she scares him by piping up a tiny voice asking where he’s going . They seat at the stop of the fence , watching for the other’s return , and slowly start to chat and laugh until they notice the sun coming up .

4 . Carol’s really good about getting Rick to spill his guts and let it all out . Call it her motherly instinct . She sits down beside him on the porch swing and casually wraps her arm around his shoulders , talking to him about what’s going on , but jokingly - to keep things light . Rick doesn’t push her away , in fact , he lets out all his secrets ; he trusts her to keep his emotions safe .
