Self-Love Rose Tea

My go-to tea for when I need a boost of self-love in my life. 

Ingredients:

1 tsp Dried Rose Petals (love, healing, protection)

1/2 tsp Basil (love, courage, protection)

1/3 tsp Whole Cloves (attraction, love, exorcism, protection) 

1/2 tsp Dandelion Root OR 1/2 tsp Black Tea (base for the tea)

1/2 tsp Chamomile (banishes negativity, love, protection, purification)

Honey to Taste 

Mix the ingredients together, and steep for 4-5 minutes. Do not steep longer than that, or you might burn the more delicate herbs. Feel free to incorporate a personal self-love sigil of your own making.

Tea time!

I’ve been working a lot these past few weeks so I haven’t had too much time to sit down to a pot of tea, but a couple of days ago I tried the Yumyulack tea!

This tea was really great. I have a feeling you’re gonna have to steep for longer than it says for the whole collection. It had a nice spice and it went especially well with a little bit of honey. I REALLY loved this one. It has a strong flavor but it isn’t overwhelming. My dad hates tea and he even likes this one!

I give this one an A+. Once I finish up the sample I’m definitely buying the full size.

Prep: 212° water, 6 minutes steep, milk and honey Verdict: ★★★★☆ 4/5 Very Good!

Excuse me for a moment while I review my own tea, but this one was A Process. It took me ages to get a blend that felt right for Charlie; after all, I had to do right by my fave. His first blend was too chai. The flavor overwhelmed everything else, to the point where it really didn’t seem like much of a blend at all. The next blend I tried ended up being the winning mix—rich, earthy, and with more muted spice. In a way, making this blend mirrors Charlie’s own arc, from short-tempered and rough around the edges to a complex mix of flavors, both spicy and grounded.

This blend combines masala chai, pu’erh chorange (chocolate orange), and rooibos orange, with accents of cinnamon. The earthy pu’erh predominates, with a rich, rounded semi-sweetness reminiscent of dark chocolate. There are undertones of rich spice, like a little peppery kick in the back of the throat. If I’m being honest, I don’t think the orange flavor is noticeable at all, though I like to think that it adds a layer of juicy notes—plus, the oranges function as a sort of pseudo-Godfather reference, if you think about it (unintentional).

Sometimes, I still wring my hands a little over whether or not I got Charlie right in this blend. It’s hard to capture “mob boss” in tea flavors, but even more so when you’re weirdly emotionally attached to that mob boss and you want to get the tastes just right. But then I brew up a cup, and I take a sip, and I’m always surprised by how interesting I find this blend. It has a deep earthy flavor that’s simultaneously luxurious and spicy, rich and layered. I’m pleased by the balance this tea strikes.

Plus, “nefer-tea-leaves” might be the best/worst pun in any of my tea descriptions. I’m not sorry.
