Blog 2014/May/17 - The Red Shirt & The Blue Cape
- - - May 17th. Man, all of my May 17ths (from what I can remember anyway) have been just... memorable I guess. I think about it because I was doing my laundry and found my Red shirt that I bought in 2007. I wore it on special occasions. Usually ones that had to do with a girl I liked. It was right around the time where red started to become my favorite color. So I'm in my room holding this thing in my hands and I can remember almost every time that I've worn it. which is only like 8 or 9 times. - - - I remember it with my Blue Jacket, the one I call my Cape. I wore that jacket almost everyday in High school. and even after that up until late 2009. I called it my cape because it was always on me. Even if it was a little too warm, I still would wear it, or at least leave it on my chair while I sat. I remember so many times that I ran back for it because I forgot it. It was always with me in my adventures. - - - And when May 17th 2008 came around, I wore both of them together for a special occasion. I was just hanging out with some girlfriends I had just made in April. One of them whom I was interested in. It became a symbol of me, even when people say what they remember me for. It would be something to wrap her in. to put over her when she was cold, and a shield to guard me against the sun, or to hide a kiss I would sneak. When we separated I left it with her, in hopes that it would remind her of me. But it just sat in her closet. I took it back eventually. But I didn't want to wear it after that. It reminded me so much of who I used to be. I'm so different than him now. - - - It was always that (now ratty) old blue Jacket. It was me and I was it. My Grandfather left it at my house in 2006 I believe. I started to wear it, and it eventually became my favorite piece of clothing. Still is. I just don't wear it anymore because it has a rip on the right arm. I need to mend it. But If I had to choose a non living Item to take out of my house if it were burning. It would be this. My Cape. Last time I wore it I went on a trip to New York In October 2013. - - - I have a poem, that I'm going to post next month about everything that it means to me. And my book Title is about me moving on from everything that it meant to me, high-school, my first love, and the me that I was, but am no more. If you're interested: Without My Cape
Illustration by Garance Dore - titled "My Cape"
So recently me and my sister were cleaning up around the house/packing up for a trip and I just had a blanket draped over my shoulders while I was moving around because it was cold. It was staying on pretty well because friction but just as I was taking something upstairs to my room it fell off and I just yelled "MY CAPE!!"
And my sister just laughed and picked it back up for me, half-choking me in the process of putting it back on me to make sure it wouldn't fall off. And I just felt like I finally figured out why we're related.
*falls over* Did you have to push me over? You could have just said no. *pouts* Can I borrow your cape to cover up with? I'm cold.
Just for a while…. 3…2…1…. BRING MY CAPE BACK, NOW!
THIS IS BORING

its a glorious make-shift cape.
Its made of a blue blanket that my dad got from his work for christmas
My mom gave it to me and I tied it around my neck because it kept falling while I was on the computer
