Welcome to my All Star Life
So I was deployed to All Star this week and it has been miserable for me. Everyone thinks that when I say that it’s because I’m a deluxe snob in a value situation, but it’s not that at all. It’s just how incredibly unprepared I was to go to All Star. First of all, they do a lot of different things for guests than we do at deluxe resorts. I feel like we mostly try (and fail) to make dining reservations and listen to complaints. Complaints for days. But at All Star, I’ve done very few reservations. But guests expect us to do a ton for them, and that’s only fair. That’s what we’re there for. But I would have honestly expected it to be the other way around.
I would do fastpass and set up shuttles to other theme parks in the Orlando area and more or less research those parks for guests. I definitely know more about Universal and Sea World and even Busch Gardens now that I ever did before. I also just help guests with questions, honest guests about property and things to do.
But really, what it boils down to is that the people who I’ve worked with the last week have been assholes. My roommate is concierge over there and she has confirmed for me that I have just been working with a terrible crew every night but they treat me like I’m a moron. There are so many things that I don’t need to ever worry about at Poly that they do every hour at All Star. Like calling the language bank or international calling cards. We don’t have to worry about those things at Poly! In the my three months at Poly, I have had to call the language bank once. That’s it. At All Star I’ve had to call it twenty times in a day.
Not to mention the kind of exhaustion that comes with working there. Leaving Poly, I’m tired. I’ve done my job, been on my feet for eight- ten- twelve hours, and am tired. But leaving All Star, even after a short eight hour shift, I’m exhausted. Emotionally and physically. And the exhaustion continues. Sleep doesn’t cure it. I wake up exhausted. I lay in bed dreading work, exhausted.
But tomorrow I will be back at Poly bright and early to open the desk and I couldn’t be happier. I miss my home so much. Poly I’m coming back for you.
Post Script: I went to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party last night and it was awesome. Photos to follow.
