Why We Do What We Do?
Why We Do What We Do?
(Based on my devotion dated December 6, 2012)
2 Timothy 4:1-5
New International Version (NIV)
4 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: 2 Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. 3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 5 But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.
Nowadays, people are neglecting the things that pertain to God. When we talk about “God,” arguments will rise because of the religious affiliations of the people involved in the conversation. For sure, one will say that their teaching in their church where they belong is right, while the other will say it’s incorrect and unbiblical. But this is not the reason why Jesus Christ died on the cross. He died in order for us to be saved! If His primary purpose is to establish a religion, He should have declared that we have to enter into a particular one for our salvation. Obviously, this is not true. In fact, John 3:16 says, “God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son. Anyone who believes in him will not die but will have eternal life (NIRV). Hence, Jesus longs to have a relationship with us, not to institute a religion! Despite of this wonderful truth, how will people know what God is really offering them?
We, as Christians, who accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, are encouraged to attend cell groups and undergo trainings in order for us to share the change and the salvation that we had experienced, because this is the priority of God. This is DISCIPLESHIP. We are charged to preach the Word because of the “spiritual pollutants” that we have today. One of the reasons why people are being misled from the truth is because of the media. What media says can easily influence the people. That is why you can see people who are trying to bend the teachings of God. For instance, the issue of premarital sex. Young people find it okay to have sex with their partners as long as they do it responsibly. But then again, this belief is not from God for we know that sex is exclusive for those who are married. This is not good especially in our nation - known as a “Christian nation.”
This is the very reason why we do what we do. We put discipleship and evangelism as our top priority because Christ told us to do so. Matthew 28:19-20 says, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” This is what the Bible calls “The Great Commission.” This is one of the commandments of God, and therefore we have to obey it.
How To Prioritize What We do?
Prioritizing is putting first things first. Unbelievers or those who are not saved possess perverted minds. They tend to prioritize worldly matters (such as computer games, romantic relationships, studying before Godly matters, and alike). But for us who already have the mind of Christ, we have to mind His business first above all else. So, how should we do it?
First, we have to learn how to MANAGE OUR TIME. God has given us 24 hours the whole day to do our responsibilities. This is already enough. NOT HAVING ENOUGH TIME FOR THE LORD IS NOT AN EXCUSE. We have plenty of time. What we lack is time management. Do not waste your time on unproductive endeavors like allotting much of your time to social networking. Do your household chores and study hard more! Remember, the waste of time is the most extravagant of all expenses!
Second, ATTEND TRAININGS! In our church, we are doing the G12 Vision, and our model for Christian Education is the PEPSOL Training. Short term for “Pre-Encounter, Encounter, Post Encounter, School of Leaders Levels 1 to 3.” In the G12 strategy, we do not just send people to share the word, WE TRAIN THEM. Using tracks nowadays is already unfitting, for people tend to listen to the gospel if Christians are good communicators. Such trainings will help us to be good communicators of the gospel. Majority of the evangelistic events fail due to poor presentation of the Word. Hence, YOUR COMMITMENT in attending these trainings is needed. We cannot say that we are willing to obey God if we are not COMMITTED to be trained.
Lastly, PUT WHAT YOU HAVE LEARNED INTO ACTION! The words in your mouth and the thoughts in your mind must be realized. Execution is the ultimate evidence of what you have learned in the trainings you had. Also, what this nation needs right now is action that brings about change. If all of us are willing to sacrifice time, money and strength in leading these people to the Lord, NATIONAL TRANSFORMATION IS VERY POSSIBLE. If we change this nation, the Philippines, we will be able to change the world! REMEMBER, God thinks GLOBALLY. Hence, His vision is for WORLD CONQUEST, as Bishop Oriel Ballano always says in G12 Pinoy Conferences.
The world needs to know that there is a God who gives salvation for the unsaved. Choose the right priority! Be a catalyst for genuine change!
Praise Jesus!
