hualian body swap au where no one notices anything amiss until they deliberately break character because hualian are so obsessed with each other that they know one another inside out and so, can perfectly act as the other
bonus: hualian decide to make it a game to see if the people close to them can figure it out
Cataloging all the HotD Daemyra fic ideas floating around my head that I definitely have zero time to write right now. In no particular order:
-First Of His Name: Realizing that he murdered his wife in pursuit of a male heir that died only hours later, that same night Viserys tells Daemon to look after Rhaenyra and restore the glory of their house, then khs in front of witnesses by stepping out the window Tommen Baratheon style. Suddenly Daemon is King, and the last line of support to Rhaenyra who lost her entire family in one day. The political mechanizations of those who want to see the Targaryen dynasty fall, a brewing war in the Stepstones, and the need for one or both of them to marry and produce heirs complicate Daemon’s long-held dream of being King. Slow burn from grief-comfort to ruling power couple.
-The Bed Is A Battlefield: One-shot set between eps 7 and 8, Rhaenyra explains to Daemon that she’s always had to keep her lovers secret for fear of what discovery would mean. But now that they are married and settled on Dragonstone with their children, she would like him to actually share her bed and not slip away in the small hours of the morning. Domestic fluff by way of Rhaenyra demanding what she wants like the queen she is.
-Vanity and Frustration: AU where Daemon and Rhaenyra marry in ep 5, and early in their marriage Daemon decides to start growing his hair out again. And as anyone who has grown out their hair knows, there are awkward stages to endure. Harmless harassment between newlyweds as Daemon grumbles about the state of his hair.
-The Last Dragon: 15 years ago, shortly after Daemon took Caraxes and fled to Essos to avoid a forced marriage to Rhea Royce, a coup executed by the Lords of Westeros resulted in the murder of King Jaehaerys and Queen Alysanne and all their descendants, as well as nearly all of the dragons. There are rumors that a few Targaryens may have escaped, and some of the unclaimed dragons fled across the Narrow Sea to save themselves -- but all Daemon knows for certain is that he’s the last of his family he knows of, possibly the last living Targaryen anywhere in the world, the last dragon rider, and the rightful King of Westeros.
But he knows he can’t take revenge all alone -- he needs heirs, he needs more dragon riders, he needs to rebuild the House of the Dragon to a force that can burn down all those who murdered his family. And for that, he’s in need of a wife. There are no legitimate Targaryens left, at least none living openly, but there are pale-haired violet-eyed descendants of Valyria to be found all throughout Essos. He simply has to find one he can craft into a queen and the mother to all future Targaryens.
After years of searching, his sources in Essos bring him “Neera”, an orphaned young woman raised in Pentos who has the right look and strength of will to fill the role, if only Daemon can convince her that she should want to be his wife and queen, that he is different from all the other men who have offered to pay someone else money for her maidenhead. Slow burn enemies to friends to lovers, to a complication as the truth comes to light -- the truth of Neera’s birth, and the mother who gave everything to save her from the fate that befell the rest of their family.
-Her Protector: A few years after Viserys marries Alicent, Rhaenyra is kidnapped from her bed in the Red Keep late one night. She is held captive by rough men who cannot seem to decide if they should ransom her or kill her or do something far worse, and in their indecision merely leave her locked up in a cell for long weeks -- until the glorious day that she hears the screeching of dragons overhead. Her uncle Daemon has come to save her, and kills everyone who took her, then carries her back to King’s Landing himself, never letting her out of his sight.
In King’s Landing, the people rush into the streets to see her, weeping to see the Realm’s Delight returned home alive, calling her Queen and throwing flowers at the feet of Daemon’s horse as they ride through the city with Rhaenyra curled in his arms, too weak to ride on her own, too anxious to get home to wait for a wheelhouse to be summoned. It is only then, at her insistence, that Daemon reluctantly reveals that Rhaenyra is in fact Queen -- her father was killed the night Rhaenyra was kidnapped, along with her step-mother and half-siblings. If only Daemon had been there, perhaps he could have stopped it, but he had been banished by Viserys yet again. Rhaenyra swears she will never banish him, and in fact she would make him her King Consort, if he will agree.
Years pass, and Rhaenyra recovers from her ordeal and grows into a strong, just Queen, with her husband Daemon always at her side. She has borne princes and princesses, the next generation of their house, and all in life seems to be exactly as she would want it. Until a sellsword, sentenced to death for his crimes, levels an accusation that it was Daemon who planned the kidnapping all those years ago that resulted in the death of King Viserys and Queen Alicent and their children. Who is Rhaenyra to believe? The convicted murderer seeking to gain her ear by spinning an unfortunately true-sounding story? Or her husband, her uncle, the father of her children, the man who rescued her all those years ago? And even if the sellsword’s story is true -- even then, could that possibly change how she feels about Daemon?
-Yet Another Mob Story: When the Targaryen mob family split over her father’s decision to marry outside the family, Rhaenyra sided with her uncle Daemon against her father and his new wife (her ex-best-friend). Years pass in a stalemate, until one day Rhaenyra sees Daemon’s new lieutenant Criston having lunch with Alicent and realizes that Criston is a spy sent by the Hightowers. She and Daemon devise a plan to get rid of Criston without letting the Hightowers know that they’re onto them. Really just PWP, with a little murder on the side, as a treat.
-Jane Austen Emma AU: The age gap is the same! I have no solid ideas for this one but that little detail makes me crazy!
-The Last of Us AU: I’ve posted about this once before, but the basic idea a modern apocalypse AU where Rhaenyra and her gay husband Laenor and their mutual husband Harwin (and their three sons) have to try to make it to the isolated bunker house of Laenor’s sister Laena and her husband Daemon (and their two daughters), and bad shit happens along the way but Laenor and Harwin are so determined to protect their sons and their wife that they sacrifice everything to keep them safe and get them to Daemon and Laena, up to and including their lives. Eventually Rhaenyra shows up on Daemon’s doorstep in half-feral mamabear mode, absolutely willing and able to kill anyone or anything that threatens her sons, only to find that Daemon has recently lost Laena and is similarly ready to murder to protect his daughters, and they have to come to a hesitant and wary understanding and then eventual partnership and co-parenting of their collected children. Maybe Targaryens naturally run hotter than most people, so are immune to the zombie fungus?
-Dragonriders Of Pern AU: Meleys, queen dragon of Weyrwoman Rhaenys, has laid the golden egg that signals the impending birth of the next queen dragon. Daemon (or D’mon for you Pern purists), rider of bronze Caraxes, is sent on Search to find young women to be candidates for the hatching of the new queen. In the company of other bronze riders, including Corlys and Laenor, he returns to the Hold where he grew up, where his older brother Viserys is now Lord. There he meets his niece Rhaenyra for the first time, a young woman of strong will with a natural talent for the telepathic communications of dragons. When she speaks to Caraxes as though his rider hardly existed, Daemon knows that Rhaenyra is destined to be the next weyrwoman. And as he trains her in the ways of being a dragonrider, it slowly dawns on him that he would allow none but him to stand beside Rhaenyra when Syrax’s first mating flight finally comes.
Edit: omg I forgot one! This one is so clear in my head but so difficult to describe in brief, so I’ll keep it short:
-An Eye For An Eye: The night Aemond loses his eye, when Alicent comes at Rhaenyra with the Conqueror’s dagger, her downward slash hits higher than it does in canon, striking Rhaenyra in the neck in a life-threatening wound the maesters scramble to stitch before the Crown Princess’s life slips away. With what she fears might be her last breaths, she commands Daemon to protect her sons, and he swears to hear he will protect her family -- or avenge them if he cannot. While the maesters try to save Rhaenyra, Daemon sits vigil with Rhaenyra’s sons and his daughters, watching over them while they sleep and talking long into the night with Laenor. But when Rhaenyra, only barely mended, asks for Daemon to be brought to her bedside, Aemond decides that his mother’s attempt at justice falls far short of his standards, and moves to exact his own revenge while Daemon is away...
i recently found out that yy's backstory was told via butterfly dream in the revised version and hualian's assigned roles in it are co-sect leaders and i! cannot! stop! thinking! about! it! specifically when yy referred to hc as "zhangmen-shizun" while xl called him "zhangmen-shidi" aaaah!!!!!
so! so, post-book 4 au wherein wuming's soul entered the reincarnation cycle instead.
without hua cheng establishing his city, the ghost realm remains disorganized and ghosts have nowhere to channel their energy except towards the mortal realm. living tyrants also breed more resentment. it engenders an urgent need for more cultivators and so, more sects are founded.
hua cheng is reborn as a young master who has an aptitude for cultivation. however, he does not understand why he feels like an outsider within his own family and home, like it all feels like he's just playing pretend. so he takes the first opportunity to join the sect of his hometown. he's not the heir and the spare anyway, just the third son.
hua cheng, who is a quick study and has both raw power and great luck, easily rises through the ranks. he even roots out the corruption happening within the sect and before he knows it, he is unanimously appointed as their new sect leader (the youngest in their sect's history, in fact). of course he does not pass up the opportunity to reform his sect and soon, they are revered across the lands.
now, with the rising number of sects, mortals have no need of gods. after all, why pray and wait for aid that you aren't even sure would be granted right away when you can just knock on the gates of your local sect and ask them for help instead.
gods, in fear of fading away, begin to do whatever it takes to ensure that the sects not only worship a god of their own choosing but to sway the common people into devotion as well. except one.
hua cheng loathes being ignorant and so, gets his hand on everything about the heavenly realm and evaluates every single active god (keyword: active). without the new devastation-level ghost challenging 35 specific gods, corruption is even more rampant in the heavens. thus, none of those divine trash deserve the devotion of hua cheng's sect, much less his.
the sect is still popular because of their competence and their willingness to help everyone, regardless of social status, but they have also become notorious for being "godless".
until a taoist in white saves the wet-behind-the-ears disciples of hua cheng's sect during a night hunt.
additional notes:
hua cheng is born blind in his right eye. he also has a birthmark on his torso (exactly where he stabbed the sword, of course).
before joining the sect, "hua cheng" means something else entirely. he only changes it to "flower city" when he becomes a disciple.
being the third son, hua cheng's parents never really pressured him when it comes to his education, so his calligraphy is still atrocious. it may be barely legible but the sect learns the hard way when they make hua cheng write the talismans. now it is second nature to remove any cinnabar and talisman paper from hua cheng's vicinity. that doesn't stop him from inventing new ones though.
other sect leaders both hate and are jealous of hua cheng. the heavenly realm and the cultivation world can see that hua cheng is on the threshold of ascension. to trigger it, all he has to do is retrieve mortal remains from the fringes of mt. tonglu and give them a proper burial.
yin yu still finds his way under hua cheng's employment. at first, it is because hua cheng would be a fool to let go of his only source of information about the inner workings of heaven. and then he finds out that yin yu used to be an inner disciple of his own sect. now, yin yu assists him with his sect leader duties. instead of a mask, yin yu wear an artifact that hides his true appearance. living in a sect again makes him miss his own and he finds it bittersweet whenever the little disciples call him "shixiong".
hua cheng uses a spiritual dao instead of a jian. it is rumored that the saber spirit manifested a cursed red eye on its hilt but no one has ever seen it (no one that has not been dispersed already, that is). that is why hua cheng gave it the name e'ming. (yes, it is a fragment of wuming's soul after he was torn apart by the vengeful spirits.)
the sect now accepts anyone who is willing to join, in spite of their history. that is why they adore/are loyal to hua cheng.
the sect has a closely guarded secret: they not only help mortals but ghosts as well. they do not disperse them without cause.
hua cheng is a hoarder. rare books/scrolls, fine jewelry and exquisite robes, priceless artifacts, weapons of all shapes and sizes, you name it! the sect scratches their head about it because their sect leader is not even courting anyone! until of course, their future shimu comes into the picture.
hua cheng sometimes calls xie lian "shixiong", to which xie lian replies with "san lang-shidi".
hua cheng, in disguise, gambles for both information and sect funds (not that they aren't already rich enough). when xie lian stays in his sect, he teaches him how to play. but because of xie lian's bad luck, he loses the items he bet on. that is how hua cheng gets back his red coral pearl and umbrella. xie lian found them while scrap collecting. both are a little worse for wear but hua cheng still cherishes them anyway (even though he does not understand why they mean so much to him).
hua cheng eventually learns that xie lian is a banished god when he accidentally sees his cursed shackles. with yin yu's help, they figure out his heavenly title.
the sect is the only one to ever worship the flower-crowned martial god and never falters in their devotion for generations to come.
after his second banishment, xie lian desperately wishes for something to remember his last believer by. from where wuming once stood and got dispersed, he finds a ring. there is no doubt in xie lian's mind that wuming used to own it. he wears it on a chain around his neck and never loses it in his centuries of wandering. when times are especially hard, it gives him a bit of good luck.
this post is heavily inspired by fullmetalpotterhead's hilarious fic, the scrap immortal has a harem?!. i had the strong urge to explore the idea more and i enjoy dress-up as much as hua cheng does so here we are~
anyway, you guys know the drill: hualian met again pre-xl's third ascension, eventually got married, and helped the common people from time to time, etc, etc. but because hc loves shapeshifting, this sparked rumors of the white-clad scrap immortal having a harem as mortals took notice of the distinct individuals who accompany him and how he is affectionate with every single one of them.
no clones were created in the making of this list:
1. cultivator hong
this is who hong hong-er could’ve been if he stayed at mount taicang and learned cultivation
the youngest member of xie lian’s harem
his hair is usually unbound and he wears white robes with gold accents to match his husband
the most striking color from his whole ensemble is the lone red coral pearl he wears on his right ear
he has an unusual spiritual weapon in the form of a red umbrella (see: tgcf revised version's new extra)
he accompanies xie lian on his night hunts
xie lian sometimes teasingly calls him "shidi"
2. general hong (or hua, because he wants to match xie lian)
this is who the soldier from beizi hill could’ve been if mu qing did not throw him out of the army
surmised to be cultivator hong’s older brother
he wears light armor in the xianle style and wields a saber
his hair is secured into a ponytail and the only accessory he wears is a red string tied on the middle finger of his right hand
he accompanies xie lian to war torn lands or places infected by a plague
3. xiao huo
huŏ (火) for fire but also for anger; temper
this is the ghost fire that xie lian freed from the lantern
he has a soft voice and rarely speaks but when he does, his words are meant only for his husband’s ears
there are rumors that he is cold to the touch
he wears blue robes paired with the most expensive and thickest of furs, which he matches or shares with his husband
he is the one who drinks the offered wine in his husband’s stead at festivities
he may be quiet and only follows his husband around but one must never anger him or his temper might just burn you to ashes
he accompanies xie lian in furthering his new cultivation on locations rich with spiritual energy
4. wu ming
the one everyone (especially heavenly officials) is terrified of as his ever-present smile unsettles them
his hair is tied into a ponytail and he wears black robes embroidered with white flowers– it matches with the same white flowers tucked behind his husband's ear, braided into his hair, and held by his hands
he does not carry a weapon but can skillfully wield anything that he can get his hands on
serene but ruthless, and loyal to a fault
he accompanies xie lian on his most challenging missions
5. san lang (or xiao hua)
this is who they believe to be xie lian’s favorite from his harem
a runaway young master that is the envy of the civil gods for his intelligence, and a polyglot to boot
has the potential to be a renowned painter if he changes his muse to anyone besides the forgotten crowned prince of xianle
the heavenly officials could not comprehend why he chose the life of a priest of a humble shrine dedicated to the laughingstock of the three realms over a secure and comfortable life of a young master
he accompanies xie lian with helping the common people in their day to day lives
6. hua cheng or crimson rain sought flower
not that they know that that is his identity and he is the actual favorite form (but then again, they're all xie lian's favorite)
the most elusive member of xie lian’s harem, which makes it all the more surprising for them to find out that he is apparently the first husband
a sculptor and a collector of rare weapons, artifacts, treasures, and scrolls
filthy rich and loves to spoil xie lian
frowned upon for being a serial gambler but is rumored to have won a couple of times against crimson rain in high-stakes bets (heh)
he is a patron of ghost city and likes to bring xie lian there, and the heavenly officials can only silently disapprove of it
bonus:
+1 san niang
the only female member of xie lian’s harem but they are not completely certain if she is actually a part of it, seeing as she’s even more elusive than the gambler
often flattered as the goddess of peerless beauty seduction
surmised to be either xiao hua’s twin or the gambler’s younger sister
xie lian is quite protective of her that one would immediately find themselves on their ass before they could even think one lustful thought about her figure
there are rumors that xie lian shapeshifts into a female form just for her
+2 e’ming
not that they know that that is his identity
initially thought to be the youngest member of xie lian’s harem because of his childlike personality
no one knows if he is blind in one eye or not but his right is always covered by his hair; if you stare too long, you might see a flash of sinister red
his silver jewelry and scathing words uncomfortably remind the heavenly officials of crimson rain's
the couple’s frequent haunts are popular bathhouses
secretly the second favorite of xie lian’s spiritual weapon (the first being wu ming ofc)
Okay but to elaborate on my vaguepost earlier I'm going to jot this down because I can't shake the idea and I want to make sure I have it typed up somewhere.
So.
Futuristic Virtual Reality Ereri Gaming AU
Eren is the son of a well renowned scientist (Grisha) who had developed a way to transfer the human body into a virtual reality (every gamer's wet dream, I mean c'mon). Grisha was commissioned by a private group (who are ultimately the bad guys in the story) to help develop the world's first virtual reality gaming system and game, and he agrees to do it.
Upon successful completion of this project, Grisha brings a system home so that Eren (who is a huge gamer) is able to try it out and use it. Eren is like, hella fucking excited about it. He is able to enter the game and basically what happens is when you die your body is forced out of the game and you come back to actual reality. Otherwise if you don't die in-game you cannot leave until you reach a save point.
But the game is really hard and complex and it's unsure to the players exactly what the goal of the game is. There are no walkthroughs or cheats. The game is essentially meant to be hack-proof (it would take a really talented hacker to even get into the game's coding) and everything is looped together into one massive system (basically like a MMORPG) so people are able to interact with each other from anywhere in the world.
Despite there not being any clear ending from any official source, people still continue to play because they're curious and they have to know how everything ends. What the reward is. And people get extremely addicted to this virtual reality because they get all these fancy upgrades and special powers - things you could never have in real life - and they never want to leave the game.
This starts to concern Grisha. He knew that this idea would be a crazy jump in technology for gamers but he did not want there to become a disconnect from the real world, and people are slowly starting to neglect themselves and their real lives in order to live in this virtual world. He stumbles upon a secret and the private company who commissioned him to help produce the game figure out that he knows something they don't want him to.
Naturally, because Grisha does know the ending of the game, he puts his faith in Eren and tells him how everything is supposed to play out. He doesn't tell him what he knows, but he hands Eren a key, and says that he must reach the final level and unlock a dungeon safe with this key. Inside of that safe is the only thing that can effectively shut the game down and force everyone inside of it out, blocking them from ever getting back inside again. When Grisha had initially helped create the game, he had coded this specific thing in just in case things went awry.
Not too long after Grisha gives Eren this key, he disappears and no one knows for sure what has happened to him.
People who play this virtual reality game have widely accepted the myth of the "Original Player" who is a human who is unable to leave the game. Of course, naturally it's just a myth, a rumor, a scary bed time story. The story is that this person somehow managed to become coded into the game and can't leave through dying or a save point. It's also rumored that he was coded in with a certain number of lives and that if he loses all of them, he will die for real (or basically fall into limbo, since his existence has now become purely virtual). Basically, he was the original test subject to see if the game was a success or not, and it was a failed test because he couldn't leave.
Eren, of course, doesn't buy into that. He even asked his dad about it and Grisha denied such a thing (although he looked troubled by it).
But (and this is before Grisha disappears) he does stumble onto a player who is especially skilled, and basically very OP. He admires him a lot and hopes that he's as good as him someday. He never actually talks about him, but he does watch him fight the bad guys. Although eventually this OP player finally makes contact with Eren, telling him that he needs to quit gawking at him every time he enters the game.
After some time passes (and after Grisha disappears) this player, Levi, reveals himself to be the Original Player. The real, actual Original Player.
He tells Eren his story, and Eren shares what he had learned from his father.
And together they join forces to try and bring down the game, and even though Levi is certain that he will lose his life once the game shuts down, he knows it's for the greater good. Eren also gets help from his friends Mikasa (who's also gained exceptional skill at the game) and Armin (who is a master in hacking computer systems).
But unfortunately for Eren and Levi, they start to develop feelings along the way... And Eren's not sure if he can bring himself to shut the game down if that means Levi will be lost forever.
idk if you don't think I'm not going to write this shit let me tell you a thing.
Erumika military AU where Mikasa is Levi's younger sister who always had a huge crush on her brother's best friend, Erwin. Erwin joins the military when he reaches adulthood and is deployed for several years. He comes back for a visit after working his way up a few ranks and Mikasa is now an adult. When he goes to visit the Ackerman family for the first time in years he's just absolutely taken aback by how much she's grown. And the first thing he says to her is, "Mikasa, you've grown into a beautiful young woman." And she just blushes and thanks him for the compliment. Sometime later during his visit he asks her on a date and she agrees.
unsocial erik think the ups delivery guy who want to have small talk with him is annoying. though the Charles guy have cheerful smile, Erik doesn't want to speak too much.
