94 days.

that was the record. no contact with junghwa. no texts, no voice notes, no calls or mailed letters or attempted telepathy. the stretch of time seems impossibly infinite. impossibly finite. ondinea canʻt remember much of it. the naiad filled their days with work. back to back classes. a camp. they had even returned to stage performance briefly. ondinea made friends and hosted dinner parties. found out their favorite brand of white wine. traveled. sobbed horribly and downloaded dating apps. deleted dating apps.

the day they broke wasnʻt noteworthy. ondinea had woken up, fed petal, and started on their own quick breakfast while they texted junghwa. like it was nothing. unblocked him and typed a message like it was as easy as water.

now theyʻre here. hy think hy will always end up here: waiting for junghwa. looking for him in every body that floats in and out of esos space. how pathetic. how romantic. how fitting. the nymph hasnʻt ordered yet. just found a little table near the corner of the cafe. out of the way without being a complete blindspot.

ondinea is wearing red. a little number with poppy print. splatters of red. kisses of red. the nymph feels like theyʻre going to vomit. they canʻt. when they see junghwa, ondinea thinks, esos going to kiss him. eso canʻt.
