The Banshee

A female spirit in Irish mythology whose ghastly wailing heralds a death in the family. Sunken red eyes from which tears always stream are but a symptom of her perpetual mourning. The blood on her dress is not her own, but that of the tragic deaths she has witnessed. Some claim the banshee is an evil spirit who kills whoever hears her song, but she does not bring death - she follows it. If you hear her keening in the night, give thanks. She is the only one who will warn you of what is to come.
