Sonnet 6
I was a rumor around the village
Palace for deformed dwarves avoiding fines
A witch they long ago failed to pillage
Not by any impressive feat of mine
I encourage misfits to luck out here
Not everybody is granted such grace
The New World punishes those who are weird
But here we don’t take our blows to the face
All I wanted was for us to be safe
After I found here I just had to share
Townspeople’s hateful gossip my skin chaffed
Couldn’t leave like tortoise, had to be hare
The water out here heals our skin so raw
Monastery for those running from the law
A quick Trivia Tuesday since I haven’t done one in a while! While my followers know me as a Luke and Thrawn aficionado, that doesn’t mean I don’t have a strong appreciation of everyone’s favorite space pirate, Han Solo. My fandom (and RL friend) @jadedjo writes wonderful Luke-centric fanfic but her heart is really with that handsome smuggler. She knew I wrote a series of sonnets about Luke and asked if I would ever do one about Han. And well, of course! General Solo deserves a sonnet! So for her birthday (a very late gift) I sat down with my ink and quill and churned out an Ode to Han Solo.
It doesn’t get as much attention as my other sonnets, but I’m actually quite proud of it, particularly how I got so many Han-specific references in there and two little winks to his dialogue (the “good kiss” and “boring conversation”). It’s a Shakespearean sonnet form, and I like how it turned out. And why not, with inspiration like Han?! Full text below the cut, or if you’d like to read/comment on AO3, the link is here.
A crimson blanket covers the full moon. By help of its magic, you control me. For common love I thought my heart immune. Cast your magic on me so I may see. Torturous, the feeling, or so I thought then -Just learned of love as If by a spell- But now time's changed my view from back when And into your heart my hearts surely fell Planted like a seed this love only grows Beautiful, strong like a gem in the rocks We tend to it so it's shine strongly shows Like the light over the bay and the docks We love and our love is magic and bright Whenever I'm dark you bring back the light.
Ngl I would bark for you guys
Sonnet 2
So intoxicating FDA got
me in my own class they call Sierra
Turning you on so much more than you thought
Hair down my back causing hysteria
Overlook anger, reading between smoke
Cut-t-t-ting up extra lines in the joke
I really think you are a darling bloke
But the hourglass turned, time to get woke
I believe love spent is never wasted
Sand dunes-tremendous snake-luminous shell
🐚🤩never forgotten, (he/it) once tasted
Personal tour guide through time’s droning hell
How did I get my seduction like so?
I’m a pennies for thoughts budgeting pro
Jedi June: Lightsaber
(well, I was planning 100 word drabbles but this one inspired a Shakespearean sonnet...)
Ode to Luke’s Green Lightsaber
His weapon’s aspect, that defines a Knight
Nature reflected in a plasma sword
Archaic emblem of lost Jedi’s plight
With varied hues of kyber they were forged
Crimson severed father’s blue legacy
Reckless heart cleav’d as surely as his wrist
Prithee, gentles, gift the boy your pity
He fell, not to the Dark, but to resist
A trial of mettle overcome, not won
True wisdom gained, honorably he failed
Our worthy Jedi now, Skywalker’s son
With Force and fortitude he hath prevailed
The past rejected, fearless love was seen
Well-suited to Luke’s cast, the Light of green

1. How many are you happy with?
I like them all! I don’t usually angst too much over titles. I suppose I could have been more original with a few, like the Fictober Drabbles one, but it was more to put all the tumblr posts in one place than anything else…
2. How many are...not great?
Well, I think Anamnesis might turn some people off since it’s an obscure word, but I like it. The Five Times fic title is pretty boring but the whole point was to write a Five Times fic, so that’s sort of to be expected, right? 😊
3. How many did you scramble for at the last minute?
Physical Graffiti was last minute, it was titled “Sabine/Luke” up until posting. Anamnesis was sort of by nature titled at the end, as the whole fic was written in one three-ish hour sprint, so that title came after it was done as well.
4. How many did you know before you started writing/creating, or near the beginning?
Common Thread, Catalysts, Five Times Luke Skywalker Surprised Ahsoka and One Time She Surprised Him, and Fan Mail
5. How many are quotes from songs or poems?
None!
6. How many are other quotes?
None! Dang I’m boring huh?
7. Which best reflects the plot of the story/content of the fanwork?
Well, I would hope that most of them do? Hahaha this is making me feel very uninteresting about how I title, but I try to convey some sense of content or tone with the titles…Physical Graffiti involves edible body paint, Creativity is my Luke MacGyver homage, Everything to Lose is before Vanto goes off to join the Chiss, Proxy is Ventress using Luke as a…proxy, The Problem with Prophecy is exactly that…oracles, etc., Comfortable is Old Married Skywalkers™, Anomaly is droid POV, The Politics of Gifting is a secret Santa type thing, Anamnesis centers around memory, Uneasy Alliance is basically a remix of Thrawn: Alliances, Impetuous is Pryce being inadvisably bold, 31 Days and Five Times and the Ode are super explanatory, The Art of Disguise is about costumes/makeup, and Fan Mail is about Luke’s fan club.
Perhaps Common Thread, Conflicting Aesthetics, Corporeal, and Catalysts don’t do such a great job of explaining plot or content, especially the holiday/Life Day nature of the latter.
8. Which best reflects the theme of the story?
I guess at tie between The Problem with Prophecy or The Politics of Gifting, as both of them sort of encapsulate the fic premise. But Comfortable would also be up there, as the theme is the comfort and familiarity you gain through a long-term relationship.
9. Which best reflects the character voice of the story/POV of the fanwork?
Anomaly is a fave because it’s Guri/Luke and hopefully reflects that droid POV.
10. Which is your favorite title?
Probably Common Thread. It started as a few kiss/dialogue ficlet prompts with @jadedjo and I didn’t expect it to become what it became. I like how that title continues to tie the fic together—it’s sort of serendipity that it started with a C too, because that was begun before I consciously titled all my Luke/Mara stuff with a C at the beginning. I hope to continue it before too long—when I have fic time again!!!
Thank you guys for the tag! This was fun!
