Not to sympathize with the deformed dildo that is Gehrman but his theme ALWAYS breaks my heart. It’s bittersweet, low and grave like a requiem, but it also has this gentleness to it and it transmits this nearly unbearable feeling of melancholy and nostalgia and yearning for so many things

It doesn’t feel like it’s only a theme for Gehrman (even though it like, speaks specifically of Gehrman, of the first hunter forced by the Moon Presence to sustain the Hunter’s Dream) but for like everyone that’s ever been trapped in the Hunter’s Dream, looking at the moon, immune to the ticking of time, cursing their own forced immortality while those around them die and are lost and it feels all so inescapable and painful and heavy

You can almost hear the prayer in it, the plea for freedom. And when you think the hurt and the pleading is over then the chorus comes in and it burns like something’s being ripped out of your chest and the song literally curses the “insidious moon” that forces them to remain in the Dream and in the perpetual night and begs for mercy in the most heart wrenching manner 

Also there’s like a very specific part I’ve seen in the few translations abt “may this evil be hidden from you (the Hunter) and I know ppl are gonna get mad bc I like to interpret it as Gehrman wishing for the Hunter to just go and end the Hunt instead of digging deeper and being stuck at the service of a Great one like he is and it fucks me up that it could mean that maybe, despite his disillusion and anger and bitterness Gehrman regrets his actions and wishes for the Hunter to just wake up for real in the morning and forgets about all this

It’s so visual and narrative and cathartic I literally cannot listen to it without ending up having to hold back tears bc it fucks me up that badly
