In conclusion, ABS is not vinyl, cheap ABS is definitely not heat safe, it will not revert to anything, it will be pulled by the inner plastic rods to warp itself into oblivion...and I am well pleased I didn’t waste $$ on iDye poly because that would have been so freakin hilarious: as I dip her into the rolling boil of brown dye and her torso, hips and upper legs warp like candle wax and pull out a flesh blob with arms and lower legs. hahahha

Lavender Sage #2 partial reroot in thistle nylon (about 75% of a hank) with a new hairline to cover the forehead crack on a modded Hasbro Disney body - I panicked realizing she was ready but no body! so whittled the neck and added a vinyl washer from that leftover Wilco foot -that doll has been a vinyl donor to many! Wearing an unknown top, on a @cosmomoore skirt with monster high boots. I had set her hair just right and then I needed to add a bunch of plugs =p

Orie’s Anlily body snapped at the hips (rotator bit broken) so I drilled in and added a 1mm thick pin, I had a hairbrush break on me years ago and kept the teeth for articulation and repair. She can’t do the side splits anymore but she can sit and stand... and I don’t have to scrap the body after chopping it up for parts. It’s actually a design that had a lot of thought put into the aesthetics with little divots under the arms so they lie flat and rounded knees, the feet are designed just right to stand flat or fit barbie shoes without looking wierd, decent friction on the joints. Surprising given that Anlily is a cheapo brand and the body’s thin ABS. Articulation on the elbows and knees is 90°; the hips hands and feet 360°. Orie’s head flange design is unsual so I sliced the neck by about 3mm down then whittled by touching the dremel cutting wheel to it so her cheeks aren’t deformed and so she can have neck movement. She’s wearing Barbie boots, a superstar day to night skirt and possibly fashion fever top, maybe early myscene. From that era when they were doing really nice finishings and classy colours.

pic spammage of Willow now that her eyes are aligned right. Still not certain about the body and definitly haven’t got around the trying out clothes (love the camo skirt sent by cosmo!) in pic3 and 5 I added blush to her inner eye and upper cheeks, it does not stick particularly well but it’s a little detail I feel brings a teensy bit more shape to the face.

Popped Tinsel Robecca in a simple dress so that the hair is the focal point. The kinks did not straighten with pressure so i went googling hair tinsel and it said max 180°C so did some trials with cut off bits and settled on 140°c as I didn’t want to accidentally cook the watered down white glue on her ends. I can’t say if it would have acted more like a hair straightening on a higher temp, can say that it definitely did not at 140 and it was more a case of grabbing individual strands and pressing out the bends. Then she got dark brown mixed with red pastel blush. I’m well pleased with how that all worked out. As for Jinafire, she was rerooted so she could go away but now I really like her, the eyes seem less huge and drowned out with all that green, I’m thinking of doing a quick brown overpaint though (see tatochop mockup) DONE, pale eyes just don’t work for humanoid characters imho.

I’m having an auto immune reaction to mozzie bites so the next three days will be slow. I’d already lost quite a bit of sleep this week then last night I was just too sore to get a wink so i’m frazzled; mental and emotional level: grouchy racoon. With that said I was awake for last night’s thunderstorm which was right overhead, a short but lovely treat.

Finagled some time to finish Green Star Darling!

re-mod her heavily modded body to accept her head (involved making a washer from vinyl from a wilco foot)

a few cuts to allow more arm and hand flexibility.

add brown paint to her eyebrows, badly.

removed her freckles, blush and sparkle details (which leave a white trace on the plastic) - reblushed with pastel and added freckles which are larger than usual because I’ve lost my dotting tweezers.

I left about 1mm of pink eyeshadow as I didn’t want to damage that eyecrease and mixed pale green glitter into restoredoll satin sealant and sort of globbed it on as well as over the blue side eyeliner

black over the purple eyelash area and a cat eye to differenciate her further from Libby.

It’s all a bit slapdash-hodpodge but they kinda of all are. Sage!purple needs a pinker toned body but I do like the shortness of this one. I’m thinking of putting Libby!pink back on Bratz Pixiez as it holds her head better. There’s a bald Vega who’s going to get pale minty aqua hair and a Leona on her way to get a red/orange reroot: it was that or another libby as the shimmer undertones on the other girls clash with red. Eventually I hope to give them their own full rainbow shelf and put my ponys in front.

As for Lorna, I realised what’s wrong, her eyes look down instead of up. I don’t have the dexterity with white (and white matching) to fix that so she’s listed and maybe I’ll get another one day.

Shoutout to @pastelgothlapis​ for suggesting Lonnie from Disney Descendants as a sturdy body replacement for Rida. It just so happened that I knew i’d seen one on ebay (9€ shipped), it went un-re-listed for three weeks but I put in a bid the moment it reappeared. It’s the perfect colour to match her current and ongoing mild yellowing and very solid.

Of course, there’s work to do: She needs her neck thinning a little at the bulbous top, coating with teflon tape and a washer, I need to epoxy repair Rida’s neck prongs which must have cracked during the time I put them away because Pullip plastic from 2006 + pressure from a wedged on obitsu at an angle = crack city. I think I might also add to her bust as that’s part of her character.

Her hands are a teensy bit sticky, I’m going to carefully wash them and really hope it’s not degrading vinyl... I have zero trust in disney to make products that can withstand play let alone time. For starters, Disney Descendants have one of the worst head anchors in modern history. Then they gave them some of the naffest nylon since Bratzillaz wave1 which is absurd given the thought put into the clothing and faces, gorgeous hand sculpts but then plop some straw on their heads that turns into frazzle when brushed? [[Not that disney collectors don’t keep rerooters in business replacing their cheap wig level hair with the same colour but actually to-scale and brushable. mind you.]]

So what about Lonnie’s head? I boiled and superglued the big rooting holes closed, she’s not wall-eyed and has good alignment (unless the cocked eyebrow is a mistake) so my mind went straight ot this recent licca hair design (slightly shorter, minus the bangs and with a pink front streak on a diagonal parting - but I have other reroot projects to do first so i’ll put a note next to her on the spreadsheet.)

She can’t exactly nick Rida’s old body because:

smaller heads can’t quite carry off the animu tiddies and noodle limbs!

In other news I got out the spare eyechips and managed to salvage a few to paint over and some others to use as bases and finished my Clawdia commission (better photos once the glue has fully set).

Project Bunita being on hold, I picked up Orie (Licca’s mum), chopped off the hime bangs and gave her a hairline that defines her face better and will allow her up-dos. Finding her a body that’s not barbie tall but does have some bust will be the next challenge: Pullip type4 is too tall but the shoulders look nice, the neck stretches her face though, “yaoi legs” clone bod with the legs chopped down has the right bust and shoulders but is too yellow (and belongs to Dàn - yes she has big ankles, i don’t care). She might get the Disney Descendants that’s currently on Willow the rainbow high factory reject or one of those Kurhn or Anlily bods from aliexpress - curvy-fied if need be. We’re getting there.

Meet the doll who was going to be “Cellophane” but sis took one look at the doll declared her really pretty but also clearly “The Griffle” hedge monster from the Puddle Lane children’s books. This is a doll I bought in the hopes of saving her hair but it had been shredded, I followed the original rooting and flocking lines and did green and purple polyethylene and a touch of Sonic Lime nylon on the top which is a gorgeous neon yellow with a hint of green. I wanted the pink in her face brought out not drowned out. With just enough purple to justify the brows. She’s unstyled because I can’t make my mind up. Those ears can’t be hidden but tendrils of curled neon would be awfully cute. I love her like this, I also wish there was a way of getting her stock and glue-treating her without damaging the flock because that was a fantastic design.
