Alright Sam, you want pain? I’ll give you pain.
There was no back up plan for The Third War. No cleverly laid scheme or Mycroft’s fingers on the pulse of the problem. Not when the attempted assassination on Anthea’s life was the linchpin that came undone. Then there was movement, turbulence, lives were uprooted and they never once thought that old research would resurface and that suddenly the need for pathologist or the archaic idea of reanimating the dead. Two months into The Third War and Molly was drafted for her expertise. They both had screamed and fought as they hauled her away, but there was no time to get her out their hold.
She was lifeless when she had returned to him for an absence of leave, silently staring at the people in the streets and shaking her head. There was no relief for the dead in this new world, there was no end to any of it, and it made Sherlock twitch in away that he was unfamiliar with. Molly didn't even flinch when he pushed the divorce paperwork towards her, there was no fight left in her, no tears to be shed. Sherlock wished that she could have. Wished that there was a fight so he'd know that there was a problem worth solving and not a resolution that had already played out, but there was her signature in fresh ink.
Many would imagine her surprise when she's told of the inevitable bombing of London, the ruination of Baker Street, and that she is to be rushed to her husband's side due to a unique situation and assured that he is still alive. She is not surprised when Mycroft Holmes meets her at the door, Anthea still at his side.
"He never turned in the paper work, did he?" She asked, her hand splayed on the glass between herself and Sherlock's heavily bandaged body.
"No, it was a rather advantageous slip in his judgement, don't you agree?" Mycroft droned, though his hand ticked nervously on his umbrella. "I must warn you that his amnesia is..." and for once in her life, Molly witnessed Mycroft struggle for the adequate words to describe his brother's condition.
"I suppose that I'll find out for myself." And with that she opened the door and stepped inside the room. The smell of sterilization was nothing new, especially with the work she was doing, but the heart monitor was something she was unaccustomed to hearing. Truthfully, she had very little idea of how to help or if she could at all. Still, she made herself pull the plastic chair to his bedside and sit as his bed sheets rustled and his eyes opened to look over her speculatively.
"You changed." Sherlock said, frowning deeply. "I don't know how, but you have. Who are you?" His eyes continued to scan and catalog her. She watched as things set into place, slower than his normal rapid fire, but still impressive with the amount of head trauma that he endured during one of the blasts. "Molly Hooper, I know your name. I know your face. I know that we- no you- owned a cat." His brow furrowed. "No, we... we owned a cat. You were not my flatmate, something else then..."
The last puzzle piece fell in and he scoffed. "Ridiculous." There was another pass over her body with his eyes, and the blues that she used to lose herself in softened. "You have my mother's rings. She gave them to us. I wore a yellow vest at our wedding."
Tears trickled down her cheeks and she took his hand. "Yes, yes. I- I know that this is terrifying. This whole new world that you've woken up to, but I swear to you that I won't give up on you." Molly's voice cracked and Sherlock's hand reflexively squeezed her's back. "I'm not okay anymore, I'll need help sometimes, but I promise not to give up on you if you don't give up on me."
His thumb stroking over the back of her hand and his gentle nod was enough for her. Just enough to give her hope in all of his darkness that they could make it through it together.
i'm slowly dying here waiting for any Mollcroft fiction, so does anyone have any Mystrade's or even Myanthea (is that even a thing) recommendations?
Clever musings on Headcannon: Mynthea
Geee.... I really wish I could sleep...but since I can't I might as well be on tumblr.
I personally ship Mycroft with Anthea. They make a great couple because they seem to have similar personalities. I can see Anthea as the kind of person that is very bright and enjoys inteletectual activities like visiting museums and going to the opera. She also enjoys the finer things in life; luxuriously well taylored designer clothes, gourmet food etc.
However, we only really see her in the first epsiode pof the series and she is not with Mycroft during Christmas. During the Scandal episode, Mycroft is rather melancholy towards relationships does hint at something deeper than surface level. So... here are some of thoughts into some of the explanations that people have posted on tumblr.
1. She is dead.
This is one explination I am least likely to believe. I would not be surprised if anthea was M16/M15 before becoming Mycroft's assistant, thus she would probably be able to hold her own in fight. Knowing Mycroft., she probably has an excellent security detail that watches out for her 24/7/365 when she is away from the office. The security detail would be two fold in that if Mycroft did have some sort of romantic inklings for her it would protect her as well as more importantly all the secrets that she probably has ammased in her brain from merely being around Mycroft and that she knows his scheadule better than he does which could easily be used against him if it falls into the wrong hands.
2. Break up / divorced
This one is more likely than option 1. someone mentioned that you can see a sole brunette amoung the many beautiful woman in and around Mycroft's office is anthea and hse is without the ring on her right hand. Plausibly, Anthea and Mycroft had some sort of domestic row, perhaps in that that they were engaged/ commited to each other in a non tradional sense and she wanted to get offically married and Mycroft rejected the idea. Mycroft really did love her and is having a tough time letting go, thus when Christmas rolls around he still finds himself putting her presents under the tree and feel rather forlore to be by himself.
3. Transferred?
If Anthea is in deed a M15/M16 agent, she could have possibly been transferred to a different post and/or was needed for some sort of special secret agenda. It is possible that Mycroft did send anthea on to this mission. She could have simply not have returned or may have for convience sake have broken up with Mycroft because she did not want a long distance relationship.
4. Illusion of Change: Everything is just as it was
Anthea remains Mycrroft's assistance and love interest. She is not prominently seen because the creators of the show would like to focus on Mycroft's relationship with his brother than her relationship with Sherlock and John. Mycroft is seen alone on Christmas because
this is Anthea's only real day off and she went to see her family
Anthea planned on seeing her family during the day and has simply not yet returned
Mycroft wanted to speak to his brother in private, thus stepped into an empty room away from his own festivities to take the call
Mycroft has had previous relationships fail miserably and tries to commiserate with his brother with his caring is not an advantage speech. Mycroft has some difficulty relating to his younger brother so putting on the whole "I have been in your shoes before and it sucks" is the best way he can think of relating to his brother.
What do you think of Myanthea?
