When I say personality disorders are ridiculously stigmatized by medical professionals, I mean it. Since having my BPD diagnosis removed from my chart I’ve noticed a big shift from medical professionals. Like, I’d been advocating for years about my chronic pain, but no one was willing to look into it. And now suddenly, after BPD no longer being my diagnosis, I mention my pain to my doctor, and she suddenly jumps into action, scheduling a pain assessment and getting ready to refer me to a specialist clinic. It’s so eerie how many doors open as soon as I didn’t have that specific label. The funny thing is, my symptoms haven’t changed. I’m still just as moody and traumatized as ever, yet I’m being treated with so much more respect now that it’s off my chart. Shoutout to my homies with personality disorders. Y’all do not deserve this bullshit from doctors.
May is BPD awareness month🤍🪷🖤
The b & w symmetrical design represents the b & w thinking common in bpd, the lotus flower symbolizes the ability to rise out of darkness & the healing process, butterflies are for transformation, delicate mental states, & resilience.
Something that really annoys me is that people are under the impression ive gotten better.
The reality is i have only got progressively worse you just dont see it anymore because i was trained to appease people, i was taught to stay quite, bare all the shit people put me through and never speak my mind or stand up for myself.
Im not better i was just trained to handle all this pain alone and that is good enough for the world because i am no longer a nuisance to anyone but myself
People with personality disorders receive a ridiculous amount of stigma and mistreatment from medical professionals for no good reason. It’s not just because of how the people with personality disorders are acting, it’s about what people assume.
I know this from firsthand experience. I was misdiagnosed with borderline personality disorder for 4 years. Immediately after I was diagnosed, I saw a huge change in how medical professionals treated me, even though I wasn’t acting any different. I was refused treatment and testing for physical conditions due to my status as someone with BPD.
And in the end, I didn’t even have BPD. Yet, since doctors saw my diagnosis, they treated me poorly for no good reason. This is proof that it’s not the symptoms of the disorder that cause stigma, it’s the people who make assumptions, stereotypes and generalizations about you that cause the stigma.
Facing stigma as a cluster b person is unacceptable, yet almost entirely unavoidable. I just want to remind all the people with personality disorders that you are valid, you are worthy of respect and equal treatment, and you do not deserve the hate that you receive simply because of your diagnosis.
