Notes on Rebuild the Galaxy: Pieces of the Past
the villian's introduction is quite intimidating
i can't with Lego Maul's fur hood fiddling in the wind
Sig's yelp seeing Jaxxon
Ahsoka's introduction music is so heroic!
Brickheadz Ahsoka is dressed in S7's outfit but I can hear Ashley is playing her more mature here. It's so rewarding to see her in a leadership role.
Darth Jar Jar is sick in this so I'll save the pictures
It's essentially a Star Wars version LEGO movie or a Star Wars What-If? series. And it's so good. Loads of inside jokes for Star Wars and LEGO fans as expected. Fantastic one-liners and jokes just keep coming. I really appreciate LEGO's core message of celebrating cooperation and creativity. It might be a theme told a thousand times but they still manage to give it a fresh spin. The new characters are not just props for the cameo and the Geebling brothers do have a very compelling story arc and character growth. Jedi Bob's backstory is unexpectedly rich and Servo is a delight.
Maybe it's the cameo bias, but I think I do like it more than the last one. It is a perfect step-up sequel. Because we are already familiar with the concept that this galaxy is upside down, the film don't have to centre on "going back" and instead just throw all manner of absurdity at us. The stakes are higher. With the ending to the last season, you've learnt not to expect a traditional progression and this time I find myself rooting for Sig and Dev even harder.
It's marketed as a four-episode miniseries but I've been treating as two movies. For a 22-minute episode, the plot is so packed. I often find myself wondering why the episode is still not over when a big event just took place. That said, the show does have some breathing space even if the general "throw everything at you" pacing an accomodation to current trends.
All in all, I really enjoyed both the first and second Rebuild the Galaxy specials and I'll recommend anyone who just want some fun, heart-warming adventure!

um a magical girl transformation? okay. I'll need some time to warm up to the idea, but it's interesting choice of hair colour for what it (doesn't) represent (not exactly Ama-iro huh?). Haha what if the magical transformation includes gender as well that'd be a cliché right
Huh the CV is not a pro is she (nope, a face actress, not VA) Can't really comment on the quality because the acting is taking me out
Reincarnation? No, cyborg arms…
I like the villain's (?) design give me the toxic yuri
There's a mecha too, on top of the cyborg arm, from a seasoned Toei writer. Adjusting my expectations to Tokusatsu (i guess i was expecting a more faithful fantasy setting instead of a sci-fi one?)
Honestly my heart skipped a beat when I see Komura Junko's name under Script (Adaptation). I like RPPT but I haven't seen her Precure work and the recent disappointment in Gavv is still fresh. But I suppose she still has more plus than minus overall so I won't worry about nothing. She should be able to handle a smaller cast of characters. In this case, the original story skeleton could be a double-edged sword in that it guarantees an adventure, but not necessarily an updated modern take on gender roles and expression. Keeping my hope at the lowest on any nonbinary discussion.
The visuals and designs look fantastic. Just that it's kinda generic fantastic so it may just be a good magical girl/toku hero film and not a profound film with twisting plots and insightful dialogues… It's top-notch in every standard, I am just being unfair. I sincerely hope it blows my mind.
It is so ironic to see people in real life arguing whether the Empire and Ghorman is in the right or wrong. Given a santitized, simplified fictional version with a model answer and you still can't see the point. Without taking sides, you should already come to notice the tools of presentation that are influencing you one way or another.
