Bit late posting, but I wanted to show this picture of Myirdroth I had been working on today.
Dragons in Istaria seem to use magic for most things: flying, crafting, building, fighting, etc. And their armor and weapons seems to be magical too, in how it interacts with their bodies. Its described as reinforcing and enhancing the scales and claws, acting as a second skin.
I got thinking, what if dragon armor worked less like armor that is worn, and more like body modification/augmentation. I love the idea of body horror type armor, and it sort of fits in with the alien nature of dragons. What Myirdroth has on now is not too spectacular, the most that stands out is her head scale, chest scale, tail scale, and her claws.
When she puts her armor on, it becomes part of her scales and claws. For instance; her claw weapon turns her talons to emerald to protect them from damage and makes them better conduits for primal magic. Her ceremonial chest scale melds itself into her belly plating, keeping its striking visage as a warning to all opponents while imbuing her with its gifts.
The effect is not permanent, as she can take them off, her scales will return to normal, and her armor will return to how it usually looks in her inventory.
Myirdroth is my character, I made her. She is not yours, she is not an NPC for your tabletop. Please dig deep inside yourself, grab some creativity and make your own goddam character.
