My Missing Piece Chapter 1
I believe that life is a test. It's like how the sky is blue and the trees are alive. Just another fact of the world. One more mistake made.
Just One. One simple fact
The wind carried stray hairs from my bun across my face. The wind stuck to me like glue. I let the cold breeze blow into my face. I look down the street and see the Red family walking down the pavement.
I can’t help but drop my gaze to James Red as he laughs at a joke his dad made, the sides of his eyes crinkle. I feel a burn in my throat as he looks over to where I’m standing.
I try to look away, but then I see him wink before he continues to laugh with his father.
His father sees my gaze and walks over to our door.
I pinch my arm, angry at myself.
“Hello Avery,” James says, his voice smooth as honey.
I feel color run to my cheeks as I wave to him.
His father smiles, he then catches up with his wife, leaving me and James alone on the doorstep.
“Did you finish your homework?” I ask, not knowing what else to talk about.
He seems confused, but I see his eyes flicker once he smiles.
“No,” he says, “I never have understood algebra.”
I laugh as he taps his head, with a fake thinking face.
“Well” I say looking at his jawline, and his full lips. “Guess you’ll need help with that.”
He raises his eyebrows. “Maybe you can,” he says, stepping closer to me. “After all, you do live right next door.”
I smile, I can smell his cologne, a breeze glides through, sending my hair across my face again. “I guess I'll see you tomorrow,” I said, tucking a strand behind my ear.
He leans forward, his face by my ear. “See you then,” he whispered, his soft lips barely touching the tip of my ear.
Before I could blink, he was walking to his house.
“He’s cute,” my mother said once I walked back into my house. A warm smell of baked pie welcomed me home.
“Why haven’t I seen him before?” She asks, raising an eyebrow.
I shoot a glare at her just before going up to my room
