An Oreo Filled With What?!
Traditional, s’mores, strawberry shortcake, brownie butter, samoas, peanut butter cup, the list goes on and on. These are just a few of the many fun-filled crème flavors that have been put in the middle of an Oreo. To me nothing beats a double stuffed Oreo. I love eating one side of the chocolate wafer and saving the second side with the crème to last. However, I will say all these “limited edition” Oreo flavors had me wondering. Am I missing out on something? I typically don’t buy Oreo’s. Not that I don’t like them, but I try to eat healthy. The issue is if I were to have Oreo’s in my pantry I’ll be sure to munch down on them. One Oreo would lead to two and who knows how many more.
When I’m in the grocery store and I’m persuaded to go down the cookie aisle I do tend to look at all the fun flavors that are on the shelf. Do you tend to try new product out if there is a new flavor or a limited release? I’m sure there are many people that do. I will say that I have done it myself as well. However, nine times out of ten I always wish that I would have just stuck with the original style. For instance I have tried the peanut butter cup Oreos because as I mentioned I enjoy Oreos and I LOVE peanut butter cups. However, I was disappointed when I opened up the package and gave the new flavor a try. It wasn’t that the peanut butter cup flavor wasn’t good it was the fact that I just wished I purchased the double-stuff Oreo which to me is what defines Oreo.
Regardless of what I think of Oreo flavors I think the brand was extremely creative in their #MyOreo Creation contest. Consumers are already aware of the brand. However, Oreo was able to engage with their consumer via social media and have them talk about a brand that may not normally be talked about. The article “5 Ways to Improve Your Social Media Results” stated that personal benefits generate interest. What did Oreo do? They created a contest where the grand prize winner will receive $500,000 and some other awesome experiences. The three finalists will receive $25,000 each and have their product be sold. To many consumers this could be their five minutes of fame for simply coming up with a flavor. How easy could it get? While the campaign is over there are still going to be consumers talking and wondering what is the next Oreo creation. I guess we will all have to wait until next year when the three best flavors will be released. While a year may seem like ages don’t worry. As I mentioned Oreo has been creating “limited edition” releases so go ahead go to the grocery store and make a purchase. Decide for yourself if these fun-filled flavors are what they are all cracked up to be.
