Myrtillocactus cochal

Myrtillocactus is a small genus of Mexican columnar cacti with a menorah-like branching habit. The plant pictured was given to the garden with the name Myrtillocactus schenckii, but it appears to be M. cochal instead - the species found in Baja California. The flowers in Myrtillocactus are small, but produced in large numbers and with a delightful fragrance. The small round fruits have a raisin-like taste and are referred to as "garambullo" in Mexico.

Un sabato qualunque obbligo mio marito ad accompagnarmi in vivaio. Giriamo, guardiamo, lui abbastanza annoiato finché non posa gli occhi su un Myrtillocactus geometrizans crestato enorme. "Amore, questo si che è figo!" - e grazie al ca**o, ho pensato - era una scultura vivente!

Da quel giorno, ogni qualvolta si parlava di cactus (per lui sono tutti cactus) tirava fuori il "cactus figo"!

Per San Valentino non ho avuto dubbi su cosa regalargli. Il più costoso tra tutte le piante grasse che ho! Sì perché, sarebbe suo ma...
