Opuntia erinacea

This prickly pear cactus is not uncommon in the desert areas of southeastern California, but in early spring it really makes a fine floral display, as seen here. It is related to the very widespread Opuntia polyacantha, and considered by some to be a western form of that species.

Opuntia humifusa and a honeybee buried up to the tip of her fuzzy lil bee butt in it.

This species is hardy to zone 4 and native to the US! Needs full sun, though, the more the better.

Rudy was shy but got along with Mov the best :)

I named the cactus baby Opuntia and the 9 tailed baby Toby!
