“This is why I rarely leave the house.” the red clad male huffed, shooing away yet another insect from his ear. “People are annoying, and so is the wildlife!”
Marcus smiled, setting up a fire pit near their crudely made tent. “And here I thought you enjoyed your buggy brethren more than people.” He inhaled deeply, getting a quick scent of someone nearby starting up their own fire. “You know bugs are attracted to heat, right?”
Morcubus scoffed as he stripped off his coat, hanging it on a nearby tree branch. Despite being accustomed to warm weather and warm conditions, even the Spooky knew when it time to lose the unneeded piece of clothing. “That’s a lie and you know it.”
The redhead shrugged, finishing up the pit and grabbing a lighter. He attempted to get a fire going, letting out aggravated huffs when he couldn’t.
“You need fuel, you doof.” Morcubus interjected, tossing a pile of sticks to his mate. “Rocks alone don’t burn. They need something to burn from.” He lit the sticks as they landed in the pit, nearly burning Marcus’ hand. “I figured you’d know that, my sweet.”
Marcus stuck out his tongue, grabbing his water bottle and applying it to his slightly burned hand. “So what’s the plan? We wait until night, or…?” His gaze shifted to their tent and all the tools that lay hidden inside. Saws, hammers, flashlights, and even a few matches. Why Morcubus brought along matches when he could conjure up fire, Marcus would never know. At this point in their relationship, he had learned not to question things.
Morcubus crossed his legs, leaning against the tree that held his coat. “At 2. Most people should be gone by then. Or at least distracted.” He grinned as he a child’s voice rose up from the campsite next to theirs. “Then we’ll get our needed supplies.”
The Cute threw up a thumbs up, jabbing a marshmallow into one of the many knives he brought along. He held it as close to the fire as he could, then laughed. “Welp, that’s nearly three hours away. Hope you like having marshmallows for lunch, ‘cause that’s aaaall I brought.”
