“...The kids got candy again, didn’t they?”
Here comes a pair of twins, tackling the girl to sandwich her between them. They were grinning excitedly, but it was Tate that moved away first and quickly too. He's the one who remembered that the chocolates they made would probably get crushed. It was nicely decorated too, for once! He held out his bundle of little round truffles towards her as did Liza, who laughed at his awkwardness. "They're not terrible tasting this time, but we added some heat to it!" She said.
May laughed, watching as the twins ran up to her and tackled her, grinning warmly at them. “Hey you two!” she said with a giggle. It was funny that the two were so young - much younger than she was - and yet they were gym leaders. Still, she’d never turn down the chance to see them.
“Oh? Aw, you guys didn’t have to get me anything!” she said, taking the chocolates with a small laugh. “Thank you so much. I’m sure they taste great.” She wasn’t actually sure of that, but she did need to be nice to the twins. “Happy Valentine’s Day.”

“It’s impressive that a pair so young are able to take so much responsibility. I would think, that you should at least meet the trainer age requirements before your able to take over a Gym though...”
Were you surprised that there were two gym leaders?
“Surprised?” He seemed confused by the question as he looks at the trainer with an arched brow. Did they think that the twins, Tate and Liza, were automatically there when he first became Champion?
“You must be mistaken.” He isn’t going to let details flow out from his lips, of course, but Steven closes his eyes and smiles at the other trainer.
“You see, Tate and Liza were not Gym Leaders when I applied as a Champion. In fact, I was the one that welcomed them in. They may look very young, but they both showed a lot of promising potential. You know the whole saying don’t judge a book by its cover, do you?”
Yes, it took a lot of convincing from the league to allow mere children to become Gym Leaders together. The fact that it broke up the traditional one Gym Leader rule AND the age limit factor almost cancelled their qualifications as Gym Leaders. They were important; those twins were very special and Steven knew he felt a sense of promise when he looked into both of their eyes for the first time. That’s a memory he would never let go of.
“Of course, like all other gym leaders, they still need practice, but I care for them as if they’re one of my own.”

Cue him getting knocked on his ass on the floor because the twins are rowdy, but at least he can tolerate their undeniably sticky and dirty fingers. “No one had washed your hands yet after dinner, had they? Well, it seems to be that time. Come on, Liza! Tate! Let’s get those hands nice and clean.”
Children, and yet Steven loved them dearly.
