Welcome to the beginning of the future! I told you I was planning more stories for MJ, and here’s the first! This mystic power reveal marks the start of bigger things for our girl in the future, most of which will feature her as an adult! I’ve got loads of WIPs in the making, and I’m so excited to show them all to you eventually! For now, let's dive into the Dragon Spirit lore!
As Draxum said, the Dragon Spirit is literally the spirit of a dragon that lived long, long ago, back before dragons were hunted to extinction by early yokai. This spirit has the ability to grant others access to certain draconic features such as flight and fire. Once it chooses a person it deems worthy to inhabit, that person becomes a Summoner. Summoners are rare and meticulously chosen by the spirit for the traits Draxum mentioned in the comic. The true origin of the spirit is unknown, lost to time. All that is known is that the work of Summoners throughout history has always been that of great justice and good.
As MJ grows, so too does her power in the spirit. Eventually, her wings separate from her arms and sprout freely from her back at will, freeing up her hands while flying. Her wings grow larger with her as well, and the small wisps around her eyes become twisting horns strong enough to be used for ramming. MJ finds that she can even summon a tail if she desires, and it aids in balancing her when moving quickly. Once she becomes an adult, her eyesight and hearing improve while her wings are summoned, giving her excellent perception both in combat and while stealthing.
And yes, MJ does eventually train in combat with her brothers. After allowing them to gently explain the values of heroism, she understands that weapons can be used for good. She will never choose any physical weapon of her own, however, for her dragon spirit’s abilities provide everything she needs to succeed in combat. Her fire, flight, horns, claws, and tail are her weapons, and she hones her skills often by sparring with her brothers and their Ninpo abilities. MJ holds her own on missions, using her Ninpo in new, innovative ways every day, and she couldn’t be happier to aid her brothers in their missions of good deeds throughout New York.
