Joel Levin’s “Pendulum Oracle: Your Personal Ouija”’from 1977. This envelope contained a small printed card, a little pendulum, and a pair of instruction sheets; one for the items’ use as a divination device, and the other a scripted magic routine for it by none other than Harry Anderson, who I had the honor and privilege of knowing in life. So it was a neat discovery seeing his connection to this little item and I could totally hear his unique voice as I read the routine. A surprising rarity in the Ouija collector world is William Fuld’s 1915 “black diamond” planchette for their “Mystifying Oracle” line. To date, I think we’ve tracked down fewer than ten in private collections around the country, and of those, I’ve had a whopping four pass through my hands, which is pretty astounding odds given how rarely they are seen. Here’s the one I kept, as fresh and clean as one might ever expect, still nestled in its original box. Pint-sized J.M Simmons Ouija just hangin’ out and lookin’ good.
