Wrote this for my myth class. Thinking about cutting some of the story out. Opinions?
This is my tale of you and me,
Of our love, our woe, our misery.
Whom I loved with all my might,
Whose sweet face kept me sane at night.
This is my tale of the sea,
Of my pain, my loss, my family.
It was then, as they forced me to leave you behind,
Onto that ship and out of my mind.
Nights and days of endless pain,
Days and nights with no end to gain.
Long hard days across the sea,
With only memories of you to keep with me.
Letter after letter, to you I wrote,
Until they were found upon the boat.
Teased and tormented then was I,
As into the sea I watched my letters die.
No tide, no storm could take you from me,
But the waves of your heart made a sailor of me.
Nights aboard and days on shore,
Like a tide you slipped away,
In a dark storm lost was I to stay.
Nights aboard and days on shore,
Now your sailor without a sea.
Just like that I was dead and gone,
To you I couldn’t last for that long.
As time went by I learned the ways of that ship,
The days fell by, my soul and heart ripped.
The friends I made taught me much,
Like the ocean, like the sea,
So much began to go on inside me.
Until a violent storm ripped the seas on which I sailed,
Until the my sails and ship had failed.
No tide, no storm could take you from me,
But the waves of your heart made a sailor of me.
Nights aboard and days on shore,
Like a tide you slipped away,
In a dark storm lost was I to stay.
Nights aboard and days on shore,
Now your sailor without a sea.
Try as I might along with my crew,
Overtaken were we by a monster like you.
With monstrous eyes and tentacles streaming,
With fear in our hearts and our mouths screaming.
Crushed by our masts was our good captain,
From red to white began our sails to stain.
As the crew began to battle our tormentor,
By the side of our captain was I to my mentor.
As lost was he, our captain to the sea,
Lost were we, as you and as me.
No tide, no storm could take you from me,
But the waves of your heart made a sailor of me.
Nights aboard and days on shore,
Like a tide you slipped away,
In a dark storm lost was I to stay.
Nights aboard and days on shore,
Now your sailor without a sea.
Cold, dark, and empty we my days on that ship
Like a memory of happiness, I began to slip.
‘Til one dark day, the message that came,
My monotonous days were no longer the same
The life at sea which had come to claim me.
Word came of my lover to me,
“Return to the land if you wish to see.”
Back to you I swam and I sailed
Only to find how badly I failed.
Breaking what was left, what was left of me.
To another you had left; what he had stolen from me
That which had kept me alive at sea.
My cold dark tale of misery,
You who then left me as one of the sea.
You told me to leave, you told me you’d wait,
All I got back was something to hate.
Like a red rose to black,
Like the knife in my back,
This empty dark chest which hurts at best
This black bleeding heart which never will rest
You’re soft beautiful face
No tide, no storm could take you from me,
But the waves of your heart made a sailor of me.
Nights aboard and days on shore,
Like a tide you slipped away,
In a dark storm lost was I to stay.
Nights aboard and days on shore,
Now your sailor without a sea.
No tide, no storm could take you from me,
(No tide, no storm could take you from me,)
But the waves of your heart made a sailor of me.
(But the waves of your heart made a sailor of me.)
Nights aboard and days on shore,
(Nights aboard and days on shore,)
Like a tide you slipped away,
(Like a tide you slipped away,)
In a dark storm lost was I to stay.
(In a dark storm lost was I to stay.)
Nights aboard and days on shore,
(Nights aboard and days on shore,)
Now your sailor without a sea.
(Now your sailor without a sea.)
No tide no storm will take you from me,
No ocean monster will get you away
And now I’ll never let you hurt me
And now you’ll never get to see
And now you’ll never ever hurt me
And now you won’t leave me be.
Now your sailor without a sea.
