I have NEVER BEEN SO DISAPPOINTED WITH THE ENDING OF A GAME. Hours upon hours leading up to one moment and then (major spoilers ahead)
we learn the snow is the real villain??? Regardless of the Wild Hunt? Okay, I could live with that except for the fact the game probably skipped the most major cut scene. It’s the ultimate fucking cut scene. Ciri leaves Geralt to fight the snow/stop the snow/idk and then it just fast forwards to the future??? WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED IN-BETWEEN?!? We were in the middle of a major battle and we get no explanation about anything?! Did Ciri manage to defeat the White Frost? Was she wounded after the fight with Caranthir? Because she sure looked it. I thought when I saw Ciri at the tower that it was some sort of trick by Avellac’h - especially with the way she treated Geralt: “You’re only a Witcher, silly.”? I haven’t read any of the books but it seems more than a little OOC considering she seemed to look upon the Witchers and Geralt so highly. I would've expected more of a response from Geralt too, regardless of your dialogue choices he pretty much waves her off into an incredibly dangerous portal and Avellac’h just stands there.
Then the game skips forward and everything’s covered in snow - is that some sort of residual thing after she defeated the White Frost? Or did she not succeed and she escaped from the portal so the White Frost continues to encroach upon the world? The game doesn't explain ANYTHING. And why are they all just sitting in White Orchard hunting rabbits? Zoltan and Dandelion have their tavern to run - have they abandoned it because I chose to kill Ravovid so Emyhr took over Novigrad?? I wouldn't know because yet again, the game gave no answers. Meanwhile Triss has very little to say (yet again, what a surprise) and just stares creepily at you for five minutes. Where is the epilogue dialogue where I can speak to everyone before we finally part ways? And as much as I dislike Yennefer I didn’t even SEE her in the epilogue. Did she make it out of the blizzard okay? What then? We only get a brief mention of her from Geralt which suggests she would be okay.
I didn't even get a say whether Ciri became Empress or not - apparently that becomes the default choice if you choose to visit Emyhr with Ciri earlier in the game? I had no desire for Ciri to rule, I just thought it’d be best to visit Emyhr since he’d probably get pissed if we didn't and he’d consider rescinding his offer of peace to the sorceresses. Speaking of which, what happened to them and the Lodge? Does it succeed or does infighting break out? And they offered to train Ciri - does that go ahead after she becomes Empress or what? No explanation for that either.
I just feel so cheated having enjoyed the rest of the game to the fullest and with it leading up to this incredible battle and then... poof. We skip forward to a lacklustre epilogue with no explanations. Damn.
edit: Just watched the other two endings on Youtube where Ciri either becomes a Witcher or dies. They’re still missing a lot of details (hello White Frost cut scene where are you??) but they do a much better job of wrapping the game up. Really kicking myself for taking Ciri to see Emyhr now...
