Depression postponed, the Art and Making of Control is getting a reprint after 5 years!!!
I saw someone talk about the colour theory in PHM, most importantly how blue represented Grace on Earth (calmness, relaxation), he’s wearing blue denim his blue lab coat when he’s himself doing his own thing
Another thing I saw was that he’d fashioned a beanie out of his joggers after he wakes up on the Hail Mary, literally cutting off one pant leg to make a hat
And him crafting a blue beanie (the thing he wore all the time on earth) is like him trying so hard to regain who he was in the middle of his memory-loss breakdown, it’s not what he was it’s not the same thing but he’s GRASPING at anything to get back who he was
But he doesn’t even know who he was so it’s a facsimile of the real thing, created from half-recalled memories
So for Earth Day you can spell your name out using NASA Landsat photos
Type your name and see it spelled out in stunning Landsat satellite imagery. Explore Earth from space, letter by letter, with NASA and USGS
It’s a bit long but it’s how he should be immortalised
Listening to “believe in the Hail Mary” from PHM while watching the Artemis II crew go around the moon changed me for the better I think
The eye is a 9!!!
A couple of things I noticed on my 4th rewatch of Project Hail Mary;
- when Grace discovers the space dots are cells, you can see a reflection of Stratt’s face in the glass and she’s beaming with happiness
- I saw people say the person Grace called “a staggering waste of carbon” was in the meeting on the aircraft carrier and his reaction seeing Grace walk in is priceless
- Grace has tears in his eyes when Rocky first imitates him in the tunnel
- Rocky saying “it not enough” about his and Adrian’s time together cuts to shots of people celebrating and partying on Earth- it’s Grace’s “it not enough”
- Stratt singing “remember everything will be alright” as she looks out over the whole room :’) she loves humanity so much and she’s trying so hard to make sure everyone has a life to live
- Grace tapes a drawing of a rainbow onto Rocky’s habitat as he’s healing
“Grow brighter”
<Rise And Shine>
What if the sacrifice wanted to live? What if the sacrifice knew it needed to die so the rest of humanity had a chance? What if god stared at you in the face and chose to help you so you would accept it and you decided to scream in its face and stay defiant to the end even though it’s your only chance of survival and all you want to do is live. What if all you wanted was to return home but you still die anyway. How prisoners and convicts are treated as disposable. How a life becomes worthless in the name of progression. How he was never ever going to be free under the COI but he was freed when he chose to sacrifice himself so others could live. How all the stars were long gone but their lights remained. How we see Simon but he’s already dead at the beginning of the film.
