do u ever think about how Pearl was the only person other than Joel who mourned Lizzie? Do u ever think about how she looked at the woman who lived on her own, in a tower cottage beautiful but achingly quiet, and offered friendship? Do u ever think about how Lizzie brushed her off, and wonder if the person she saw before her wasn’t Pearl, hand outstretched and allies aplenty, but one with green skin and red hair and a voice promising that “you could have trusted me?” Do u think she wanted to be alone? Do u think she wanted to risk it?
And do u think that, in the end, when Pearl made her choice, she didn’t just think of scarlet robes and the howling of wolves, but of pumpkin patches and skeleton bones?
Do u think that she took the side of the villain in honor of all the villains that were christened the name, and all those who weren’t?
