alien stage headcanons from a desi girl 😳
sua and luka are very similar aesthetically and personality wise, but when you dive into it, there is a clear difference in the way that they crave affection and love in their world.
both luka and sua experience jealousy from different people. sua with her sisters, and luka with heperu and hyunwoo. however, both of these cases are sort of different, which is why they are able to differentiate more. luka craves affection through being more controlling, and sua craves affection but thinks she has to gain it by being passive. why?
luka, from a very young age, taught that if he couldn’t rise to the top, he wouldn’t be worth anything to anyone. if he couldn’t dominate others and have a strive to win, he should die. he should be “grateful” that he was lucky enough to rise above all of his clones. so, of course luka associates love with dominance, because of how heperu abuses him. he wants to feel control over hyuna and his situation, because to him, without it, he’d be worth nothing. ironically, hyuna felt interest towards him because she thought he was someone she could be able to protect.
meanwhile, sua thinks that she has to be passive and submissive to be loved, which is why she is so elusive and quiet around others. when she tries to interact with her sisters that are not hia, she gets pushed away, which to her, means that she cannot be confrontational or else she will be rejected. additionally, with hia projecting onto her, and with nigeh’s obsession with forcing her into femininity, sua thinks that she can only be loved if she’s weak, because that’s all she’s worth. this is what made her relationship with mizi a veil of innocence from everything else, and also why she cannot make friends with others easily.
ironically, this is where their parallels come full circle. because of how they were taught love and how they give love, it hurts those around them, and it fractures their ability to explore their identity more. luka can’t see what he did wrong, because in his eyes, he did exactly what was expected of him to be loved, which is why he shows not a lot of regret about hyunwoo until it slaps him in the face. sua, because of how she was treated, never had faith in herself to be stronger for others, so she chose to die for mizi, because she believed because of her fragility, she was doomed from the beginning.
i wish more people would talk about these parallels. while i do love ivan-mizi-luka parallels, these two are very similar and different in interesting ways.
ive been thinking about how till and sua’s familial relationships affect them, and how it makes them perceive the relationships around them in turn.
because of io, till chases after the affection of the idea of a person, due to having fragments of the warm memories left behind. he falls for the facade mizi puts up as a defense mechanism, and in turn, it makes their relationship strained. meanwhile, io and ivan both show versions of themselves to till, both of which fail to fully reflect their true emotions. while io chooses to indulge in till’s singing, even though she knows and fears for the future that will likely come, ivan chooses to try running away with till, despite knowing he’d be leaving everything behind. while i do think that till chose to stay partially for mizi, i also believe that because of his separation anxiety, he internally felt that following happiness like that was impossible, and that like the warmth of his provider, the warmth of ivan would be stripped away from him too.
hia was definitely made in the idea that she was supposed to represent two sides of a coin. on one hand, hia and mizi are very similar for providing warmth and comfort for sua, which helps with her sensitivity to the whole situation. however, while mizi is happy to keep up sua’s fantasies of innocence, hia decides to break it, for fear and bitterness of sua. this is where hia parallels ivan, as they both tease sua and force her to see the reality of her situation. my thoughts is that while sua is able to be somewhat passive towards it when it is hia, she actively avoids ivan for it, due to not seeing a caring personality from him, making their relationship more strained.
tldr : till’s relationship with io makes him see incorrect perspectives and personalities because of his own fears and feelings, while sua knows the full idea, but avoids it, because she is too sensitive to facing the truth of her situation. both of these perspectives also can be linked with ivan and mizi’s facades as well. 🪽🎸
What do you think Ivantil and Hyulu's themes will be like on the Zombie Stage?
im really excited, and considering what we’ve already seen, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see themes of exploitation with them as well (especially with ivan and luka). luka will be interesting because it might dive into his health, medical torture, and how the industry as a whole treats idols like they have to be perfect, even when their health is declining.
i can see a more twisted part of Hyuna, like sua, subconsciously latching onto luka, as in alien stage, we know that luhyu’s obsession is mutual, even if a part of hyuna only wants him to react with hurt, like a human would.
for ivantill, as seen with all the heart symbolism post karma, and my inclination to believe till will die this time around, I can see till giving ivan his heart as a form of rebellion against the system as a whole. its destruction by his own volition, even if ivan is too far gone to understand it. I can see them definitively clashing in flashbacks, over the fact that ivan is supposed to be perfect all over, and how till, someone who rebels, might hate that.
again this is all speculation, and i could be entirely wrong, but so far, i think that whatever we DO get will work, since zombie stage is already off to a great start.
