Here's another Delta Boeing 757-200 without winglets! Such a throwback. Just to think there was a time when no 757s flying had winglets. This particular aircraft I photographed last November in Atlanta is N676DA. In 1979, Delta Air Lines released its “Delta III” specifications for a 150-seat airliner that as a cornerstone of the specification, had to have 50% the fuel burn of the Boeing 727-200 that formed the bulk of Delta’s domestic fleet at the time. When “Delta III” was released, Airbus had set up design and planned production of a single-aisle jetliner in Toulouse, France- the nascent design of which became the A319, A320, and A321.\. Astutely realizing that the new aircraft would only be successful with major orders from US carriers, the Airbus consulted closely with Delta Air Lines using the Delta III specification to refine their single aisle design that became the A320 family. Ultimately Delta didn’t order the A320 family and went with the Boeing 757 (which had more capacity than what the Delta III requirement called for), but Delta’s input was crucial in shaping the A320 family’s design. Delta would end up taking delivery of its first Boeing 757 in 1984 and would end up operating a total of 205 Boeing 757s over the period from 1984 to now. Delta however, would end up with a large A320 family fleet from its merger with Northwest and did end up ordering a large number of A321s (109 active with Delta in the 1Q2021). The oldest active 757 that once flew for Delta is N605DL now flying for Capital Cargo, it was retired from Delta in 2008 after 24 years of service. The oldest active 757 still flying for Delta is N652DL which is in an all-first class configuration for NBA charters. It was delivered to Delta in July 1989. #avgeek #aviation #aircraft #planeporn #KATL #ATL #Atlanta #Hartsfield #HartsfieldJackson #Georgia #airport #planespotting #instaplane ⠀ #Boeing #757 #Delta #N676DA #instagramaviation #splendid_transport #instaaviation #aviationlovers #aviationphotography #flight ⠀ #AvGeeksAero #AvgeekSchoolofKnowledge #AvGeekNation (at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport) https://www.instagram.com/p/CNltY5uBeS1/?igshid=e5x9jtsrw5f9
