For the first time asks: the first time either Durge or Gortash professed their devotion to the other — whatever shape that devotion took. <3
Whoops, I didn't see the notification for this!! Gosh, that's a tough one. Let's see...
Profess is such a strong word. Neither of them is really the type to say something like that outright. It's all about action. I actually have this little ficlet kicking around in my head that might answer this question...
My Dark Urge, Igarak, is a painfully light sleeper. It's a survival instinct. Being aware of his surroundings at all times, even in his own temple, is an absolute necessity.
So when Gortash suddenly jerks upright in the dead of night, Ig springs into action before he's even aware of what's happening, positioning himself between Gortash and whatever imagined threat his mind has conjured. With a dagger in one hand and lightning crackling in the other, he's a wild-eyed guard dog, trained to protect what's his and ready to kill.
Gortash, not fully awake himself, blinks at the room, heart pounding, while he tries to make sense of it all. When he determines there's no actual threat, he does his best to calm them both down. "Easy, Bhaalspawn. It was a just a nightmare."
It takes a moment for Ig to actually register what he's said. Slowly, the haze of adrenaline starts to lift. The dagger lowers. The lightning fizzles out. With a heavy sigh, he drops back onto the mattress, chest heaving, as he tries to compose himself.
Meanwhile, Gortash watches him, tired mind coming to awareness. A realization dawns on him.
Maybe he should be concerned, given how Igarak can jump into attack mode at the slightest provocation, but he isn't. Instead, he's delighted.
This Bhaalspawn, this living weapon, was ready to tear an unknown assailant apart for him.
That loyalty is his.
