Moonshine Cybin, crick elf druid, lover of fungus and ambassador of decay; and youngins running amok. Their ancestors were banished to the dank shores of the crick, deep within the Living Woods, where they now live in an idyllic anarchic community, welcoming misfits from across the realm who need a home. Moonshine’s buff as fuck, wields a greatsword, casts spells, and can out-wrestle anyone. Her only canonical description is that she has a tooth gap and huge tits. I love her.
The setting of the crick in the fantasy world of Not Another D&D Podcast is based on the American south. What could be more in the spirit of the crick than drawing from the historical examples of isolated multiracial communities in the hollers of Appalachia? I gave these crick elves features from a mix of Native American, African, and European ancestry. The clothes I mostly modeled after those of poor, rural southerners in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, with a little ren faire mixed in. It was so fun drawing the crick youngins, whose daily activities consist of running around half-naked, climbing, playing, setting things on fire, causing mayhem, and getting put in the time-out sack.
I don’t know how to effectively draw dirt with a pencil, so please imagine 300% more mud stains on the youngins, as well as adult Moonshine who probably just went fishing or wrassled with a crick bullywug.
I also kept accidentally lifting away graphite from one area as I drew another area and lightening the whole drawing, so despite continually re-lining and re-shading as I went, the skin tones ended up not as dark as I initially drew them. I had to call it here to get my submission in on time, and I'm thinking I might try a digital piece next time lol
Credit to ro-bee for the pose reference. I’ve had this art saved in my liked photos for months hoping to do a Moonshine redraw of it and I finally did! Thank you for your talent. And thank you to Ice for the challenge—I rarely draw and I’m definitely still a beginner, so this was such a great reason to get myself to do some creating. Happy birthday!!
it's been years but i'm still not over marabelle, in her dying moments, witnessing moonshine and thinking she was jolene. in her corrupted state marabelle lied and said she was moonshine's true mother, but when the influence of the nine hells drained away, she saw her sister in moonshine. moonshine was jolene's spitting image. and moonshine let her believe it, to bring her aunt peace one last time. i feel sick. axmurph you're KILLING me
