Doing a side project but some how it never clicked to me that taken together you could take the names dios and anthy as a way to complete a bit of wordplay about the flower dianthus (which is comprised of the words dios and anthos, together meaning flower of the gods) to reverse itself into a bit of wordplay about the Yamato nadeshiko (a Japanese variant of the dianthus genus meaning the ideal Japanese woman)
I feel like you could take a good few interesting readings from that.
I think that in a way Nadeko was waiting to be normal, she was waiting to be like everyone else. Not a “not like other girls” girl but a “when will I be like other girls, I wish I was like other girls, I’ve been waiting so long to be like them, when will it happen pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease” sort of girl but like subconsciously. It’s all intertwined with the fatalism and the belief you can’t change and any step would leave you in the same place so going on is pointless. As you do.
In opposition, Hanekawa is writing dissertations saying “I assure you officer I am like other girls :).” “I’m just doing what any normal girl would do.” She has put herself into the shape of a normal girl and fully believes she’s performing it and succeeding. She’s gotten a perfect score at normal there’s just a darkness brewing in her that no normal girl surely has she assures. Literally don’t worry about her integrating the boy cat spirit into another self. Most girls have a room but it’s not Hanekawa’s business, literally don’t worry about it you’re supposed to always be stressed at home. She’s heard about people putting sauce and salt on food, but that’s probably just things other people do.
Apparently a commercial for a non monogatari product rented out renai circulation, the power of the song grows with each day I think. Cognito hazard.
It’s really funny when you get like the perspectives of the other girls in second season and they’re like “you know what I admire about Koyomi? His stable sense of identity.” While the nefarious Ougi is just, there.
They’re doing a good few monogatari collabs/merch lottos stuff rn, doing a current in house and announced out of house game collab, they even finally dropped the monogatari final season ost on dvd and they have new art of Sodachi Ougi and Yotsugi for it. I wonder if they’re trying to build hype for something or if they intended to at some point since these events are so close together. Studio shaft is bad at planning so it could be anything, even nothing at all.
I think that nisio’s fight choreo tends to be consistently good, even with shorter stuff. It makes sense why a lot of the more action heavy of his works tend to get adapted
Bc Tooe eloped like, the same year Kanbaru was born it does actually give a pretty tight range of ages she could be, especially with Izuko saying her age gap with her isn’t that big but still had like a vague materiality to it. You can kind of line it up with when Izuko had Araundo (as that happened 3 years after Kanbaru was born) to calculate things but honestly a lot of this is a whole mess of speculative teen pregnancy and asking what age Tooe ran away at to get married and if the law supported their ability to do so (18/19 Y/Os couldn’t rent legally without parental permission till like 2022, which would historically affect this but honestly I think there is an age gap between Shun and Tooe so it probably works regardless).
