This week, the star of the UCB Close Up is Nadia Osman! Nadia Osman, in addition to many other things, is a writer for the UCB Beta Team, Sneak Thief! Watch some of the videos she’s written below, and keep your eyes on the UCB YouTube page because another video written by the talented comedian is being released tomorrow!!
Nadia is an LA based performer and writer. She started studying at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in 2009, where she had some fabulous teachers like Joe Wengert, Nick Wiger, and Brian Huskey. Now she is bringing her talents to UCB by doing both live shows and online sketches! It’s no surprise that Nadia’s sketches are always smart and witty. She received a B.A. in History from UC Irvine, and graduated from the UCLA Writer’s Program. Nadia has written some hilarious sketches for Sneak Thief!, and has co-directed sketches, helped with sound, props, and more.

At the UCB theatre, Nadia co-wrote and co-starred in the Breaking Bad musical, “Walter White and the Amazing Blue Crystal Meth.” In a piece by Business Insider, who deemed the musical “hilarious,” Nadia stated that she and co-writer Jackie Johnson, “are basically two writers/improvisers/comedians who love the show and wanted to pay it tribute in the best way we know how, which is musical parody." If you’re a fan of Breaking Bad, musicals, Breaking Bad musicals, and/or parodies, but don’t live in LA, never fear! You can watch the whole thing online here:

Nadia has also been part of the UCB shows Tournament of Nerds, a nerd debate show, Les Sizzlerables, a Les Miserables parody, Bombs Away!, a comedy musical, Quick and Funny Musicals, Sketch Cram, Cagematch, and more. She also has experience performing outside UCB. She’s been part of the last three Del Close Marathons, and has performed at iO West and Second City. You can see Nadia performing around Los Angeles at places like The Clubhouse and the LA Indie Improv Festival, too. Because of her love for, and knowledge of, musicals, Nadia was even a guest blogger on “The Amy Spalding” blog for her segment, “Musical Theatre Mondays.”
If you live in LA or are planning on visiting, we definitely recommend you see a show that is either written by or starring Nadia. And, hey, you’re in luck - there's one this week! This Wednesday's Spank will be the premiere of the newest comedy musical co-written by Nadia, and this time it’s about Mad Men. You’ll feel dapper, you'll laugh, and you might even cry. But from laughing, so it’s totally fine.
