Whenever burlesque or drag people universally declare that performers who don't do/wear/choose xyz, it betrays the entire art form. Sure, there's basic stagecraft things that are a good idea to implement, but at the end of the day, you personal preferences are not laws passed down from the performance gods. There might be intentional reasons why someone made choices you wouldn't, or maybe they just forgot or haven't learned it yet, but you're not gonna teach them by policing them.
I can't point my toes. I can barely wear heels anymore because of my muscle cramps. Sometimes I leave my glasses on so I can see, and that sometimes means no giant false lashes. And I can't wear my nails long or wear fake nails because it achieves the same results as putting a cat in doll clothes, and I will be crawling out of my skin until I have short nails again. (Honestly, a lot of burlesque/drag "rules" are pretty ableist and don't take into consideration why some people straight up can't do xyz.)
Anyway, I am not doing drag/lesque just to have a different set of gender roles strictly imposed on me. Especially when nobody is paying anybody enough to be micromanaging them like some kinda asshole boss. If somebody wants to preemptively tip me $100, maybe I will at least paint my nails.
